Well geesh, she didn’t even bother to say ‘hello’. “What girl?” I laughed.

“It’s not funny Kisha. You gotta squash shit before it even happens.”

“I’m not poppingup to no damn shops Mya. I don’t have time for that I’m way too busy and I doubt Meek is doing anything. We don’t get down like that.” I said.

“I know he doesn’t,and I’m not talking about Meek, I’m talking about these bitches.” She fussed.

“Iseverything okay with you and Demond?” I asked her.

“I don’t thinkhe’s ready to fully commit to me. I have a feeling he’s trying to test my loyalty which I get it. It’s just tough becausehe treats me better than anybody I’ve been with. He’s never called me outside my name, he’s never hit me, he’s never stayed out all night and he always makes sure I’m good over everything else.”

I frownedwhile standing in the mirror lifting my shirt up staring at my flat tummy thinking about the growing baby in there. “Okay, so I don’t get it then, what’s the problem?”

“The problem is,he cheats Kisha. Everything in life comes with a price.” She sniffed.

I stretched my eyes.“Are you crying?!”

“No.”She lied.

“You’re not being honest Mya.”I walked into the bedroom to get dressed real quick. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s just that…Ionly want to be loved. Like why does everything come with a price? It’s been tough for me, ya know? Like when I find the right person, he’s flawed somewhere else. Have you ever felt that with Meek?” She asked.

I hadto think about it, and I came up with nothing. “No, but see, Meek and I are different Mya. He knows me just as well as I know him. We have the same heart and always express the same kind of love all around.”

“Lucky ass.”She managed to chuckle.

“You’ll be fine Mya.Just try to talk to him and get to the bottom of why he’s testing you the way he is. For all you know, he could’ve been burned in the past. Women aren’t the only people that get hurt; women out here doing trifling shit to men as well.” I said thinking about my own past. I hadn’t mentioned it to Meek or Kisha, but soon I was going to counseling. I’d already set it up, I needed it because everything was balled up inside, and it wasn’t helping me to cleanse my heart in the proper way by holding it all in.

“I guess you’re right.I’mma do that shit tonight. Maybe I’ll tie him up in the bed or something and make him think we about to do some freaky shit to make his ass tell me. You remember on ‘Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’ when Joc’s girlfriend did that shit to him?” She laughed. “That’ll be perfect.”

I couldn’t stop laughing.“I don’t want to have nothing to do with that.”

“Yeah, yeah, well anyway. All jokes aside, keep your eye on them hoes up at that shop. I’ll call you later.”

Just as quickas I thought about what she said, I pushed the thoughts from my head. Instead, I ran to the store and picked up some roses, a bottle of wine, some candles, and carryout from Rustic Inn. I didn’t know anything about being romantic, but from what I’d seen on TV I thought this was perfect. I went to the Family Dollar next and purchased some items that would be used for a baby.

When I got back home,I cleaned the house, lighted the scented candles, and used the rose pedals to make a trail from the kitchen and all throughout the house until they reached the last destination in the bedroom. I put the food in the oven and took another shower waiting for Meek to pull up. I wore a long white maxi dress and had my hair hanging down my back. My light feet were bare, but my white polish sat pretty on my toes.

I hadon the ring he got for me along with the matching necklace and my new Pandora charmed bracelet on my wrist. I heard him when he pulled up coming into the driveway. He walked in looking like a million bucks. I kind of liked when he dressed casual to work. “Baby!” He called walking in through the side door leaving his shoes at the door. When he looked up, he was shocked. “What’s this?” He smiled.

I turnedon the music to our favorite song as Mariah blast through the sound system. “Come.” I said walking up to him placing his hand inside of mine. “How was your day baby? I have a surprise for you.” I placed a gentle kiss upon his lips.

The lookon his face was a happy one. “I’m speechless Kish. Never in my twenty-one years has a nigga experienced anything like this. I don’t even know what to say.” He hugged me.

“Well, this is a special occasion. I want you to follow the trail of rose pedals all over the house. Everywhere you stop they’ll be a clue.”

He noddedhis head but never stopped smiling as his gold teeth glistened with the light from the candles bouncing off of them. The first stop was to the living room where a card waited for him on the coffee table, he picked it up and read it:

Roses are red; violets are blue

I’ve always loved you

And I know this love is true

He looked back at me and kissed my cheek. “You already know what it is baby.”

“I know.”I smiled.
