IT AIN’T EASY BEING MEEK
“Why you don’t believe me when I be trying to holla at you about shit? Isn’t that the same Beamer you just sold the other day?” Demond asked. Today was a busy day because we were meeting with financial advisors and shit. I wasn’t dressed in my hood gear, neither one of us were. We were both casual and my dreads weren’t hanging today. They were pulled high and tucked. Even still though, I noticed that look drove females crazy as well.
He was right though, this fucking girl was back again. “I’ll handle it.” I told him. I could’ve kicked myself for not putting the sign on the door sooner letting our customers know what time we’d be back for work. “What’s up Brittany?” I asked. “Everything okay with the car?”
She stood there looking and smelling good. I was used to it by now though. “Morning Meek.” She smiled. “I don’t know, I love the car, but it feels like the alignment is off or something.” She said.
“What you mean? Like it’s shaking?” I asked her.
“A little.” She shrugged.
“Toss me the keys, let me drive it around the corner and you can show me what you’re talking about. Let me see if I can feel anything wrong.”
She walked on the passenger side and threw me the keys; catching them with one hand I got in the car and cranked it up before backing out. “This ride is actually nice as hell.” I told her.
“It really is.” She said. “I have no other complaints.”
We made it all the way to the red light, and I still hadn’t felt anything yet. “You sure you felt some shaking?” I asked. “Cause this shit is riding pretty smooth to me.” I told her.
She frowned. “Well, it was earlier.” She said placing her hand on my thigh. “I’m sorry Meek, must’ve been a false alarm.”
I looked from the light to her hand on my thigh. “Come on ma, don’t do that.” I said.
She quickly moved it away. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”
I drove back to the shop and hopped out taking a deep breath. This shit was hard, real hard. I saw how easy it was for niggas to cheat. “Look, I can’t play these games with you Brittany. I told you, I got a girl who I actually love very much. This is business only. You need a car or a rental? Come see me, but that’s it.” I said walking away.
“You can’t fault a girl for finding you attractive!” She yelled behind my back. “Lighten up a little.” I could hear her giggles as she got in the car.
I ignored her and kept walking before running right into Mya’s ass who just so happened to be standing there in the lobby talking to Demond, but her eyes were on me.
“What up Mya? How you doin’?” I asked hugging her.
She hugged me back while looking at me side eyed. “Hey Meek.” She said. “Who was that?”
“A customer.” I told her. “She thought something was wrong with the car I sold her, and I needed to check it out.”
“She had to ride too?” She asked.
“Mya, mind your damn business aiight?” Demond told her.
She ignored him still looking at me. “She was pretty.”
“Not prettier than my baby.” I replied. “I’ll be in the back when you’re finished with Mya.” I told Demond.
“Later Meek!” Mya yelled behind my back.
I chuckled. I didn’t have a choice but to love Mya. The girl was still as real as the day I met her. The minute she thought I was completely out of ears reach; she started fussing at Demond about some condoms and shit, so I closed the door to give them their privacy. I told that nigga his cheating ways were about to catch up with him.
CHAPTER 19
I’d been contemplating about telling Meek about how I was feeling for the past couple of weeks. My energy levels were shot, and I was constantly hungry all the time. I tried to ignore all of the signs of pregnancy, but when I missed my cycle two days ago I had to face reality. I was stuck sitting on the couch for the past hour staring at three different pregnancy tests that all read the same results no matter which way you put it. I was definitely pregnant. When I got pregnant from Kidd, I was happy about it because my life was much different then; I felt the need to have a baby to fill a void.
I couldn’t saythe same right now because Meek had come in filling all the voids that I needed him to feel. The love that he reflected upon me was more love then I’d had in my entire lifetime, so I didn’t need that baby right now to do that for me. I would’ve liked to finish school first and open my shop, but I was going to do that regardless. No need to cry over spoiled milk. We were old enough and very aware of what the consequence may be if we didn’t protect ourselves at all times. Now, I had to figure out when I wanted to tell Meek about this.
He’d been working sohard up at the shop, and I couldn’t lie, the money was good. We were comfortable, not rich and nowhere near it, but comfortable was the word, anything that was a little more than where I came from was good with me. I finally got up and got myself together. I needed to call Mya too but before I could pick up the phone, she was calling me.
“Kish, you need to start popping your ass up at that shop.” She said. “I’ve been popping up on that ass for the past couple of days and the same bitch keeps finding a way to linger around. I think this one particular chick has eyes for Meek though; ain’t no need in lying.”
