Demond fellout laughing as laughter filled the room. “Ah, nigga, you preachin’ like you old or something. Shit, you want a dry dick then that’s you, but a nigga like me prefers my shit to be wet, and besides I’m still testing Mya anyway. If she can prove her loyalty then I’ll do the same, until then it’s too soon to tell.”

“Aiight.”I stood up and dapped him up. “I’m outta here, cause unlike you, I got somebody at home who I rather lay up with any given day.”

He showedme some love as well. “It’s all love nigga, all love. Go home and rest man. I’ll holla at you tomorrow.”

On the wayto the house, I spotted Brittany in her jeep getting back in the car from the corner store. I started to say something but decided against it since I didn’t know what I wanted to say any damn way. No need to leave an open window for communication since this was business only. I revved the engine on my Hummer and waited for the light to change. I couldn’twait to get home and eat. I’m sure Kisha was home from class by now and I couldn’t wait to see my baby.

As the lightgot ready to change, I had my foot on the brake ready to pull off as soon as the crackhead in front of me crossed the street walking all crazy and shit. This bitch is gon’ get herself killed,I thought to myself. It wasn’t until a few seconds later did I realize that she was actually trying to get away from somebody. The dude chasing her was another crackhead that looked just as bad as she did. Everybody sat on they horns trying to catch the light before it changed. “Get the fuck out the road!” One chick yelled before screeching off in her Taurus.

He caughtup to her just in time meeting her on the corner and throwing one blow to her face knocking her down. She was skinny as hell and didn’t look like she weighed over a buck fifty so that wasn’t hard to do. He was in her face yelling about something, but it was hard for me to hear with my windows rolled all the way up. I eased off the brake and slowly pulled off while still staring. Right when I wanted to look straight ahead and start focusing on the road, he started fucking her up again. All the streetwalkers walked by minding their business, but this is how it was in Miami.

I wasready to do the same when the lady looked in my direction. I couldn’t believe who it was; Kisha’s mama had gotten skinny as hell. She didn’t look shit like I remembered her to be. She’d let life get her down bad and real bad. Focusing back on the road I continued on and mind my own damn business. I got halfway down the road and looked through my rearview only to see that he was still beating the shit out of her.Mind your business Meek, this shit has nothing to do with you.I tried to convince myselfnot to turn around. Before I knew it, I was busting a ‘U-turn’ in the middle of 42ndAve. My tires screeched when I came to a stop and hopped out with my gun in my hand.

“That’s enough man.Chill the fuck out.” I told the dirty dude. Big Angie was balled up on the floor crying.

He lookedup at me with red eyes. “This bitch stole my drugs, and I want it back.” He demanded. “She stole my shit! She stole my shit!”

Now I was pointingat him. “You better calm the fuck down. If you hit her again I’mma blow your kneecaps off.” I reached down in my pocket and tossed his ass forty bucks that he gladly went and scrambled. “Get the fuck on!” I ordered.

He ranoff and I looked at Big Angie in disgust. I don’t even know why I helped her ass, she didn’t deserve it. She held her bloody lip. “Who you?” She asked.

“You don’t remember?”I asked without smirking, smiling, none of that shit.

She squintedher eyes and looked harder. “Ohhh you little Meek from the Scott’s, huh? All grown up ain’t cha? You a man now, you gon’ give me some money too?” She asked standing up. “Where’s Kisha? You seen Kisha?” She asked.

“You don’t givea fuck about your daughter, you probably don’t even remember the last time you saw her.”

She spreada huge smile on her face. “I saw Kisha.” She teased. “She so pretty.” She spit when she spoke since she was missing her teeth and the shit was nasty as hell, so I took a few steps back. “She didn’t tell you, did she? I saw her in one of those houses and I made her leave. I told her don’t be like me. I love my baby.” She said.

My blood was boiling.I knew motherfucking well she wasn’t telling me she saw Kisha in no fucking crack house. “What fucking house?”

“How much you gone give me?”She held her hand out showing off her dirty fingernails and broken nail tips.

“I’m not giving you shit.”I said walking away leaving her begging ass standing there. Kisha was clean as far as I knew, but I swore to God if she fucked with that shit again, that was it. I was done, as much as I loved her; her ass was cancelled. I couldn’t watch her destroy her life like that.

I spedoff and made it back to the Eastside in less than fifteen minutes. When I walked in, I slammed the door so hard the picture of Kisha and I that hung on the wall fell off and shattered. Kisha nearly jumped out her skin as she stood in front of the stove cooking.

“Meek, what’s wrong?!”She asked looking terrified.

I leanedup against the counter and bit my bottom lip before I said anything. “I saw your mama Kisha, you have something you want to tell me?” I asked.

She lookedaround like she was thinking. Her heart was beating so fast I could see it through her thin shirt. “Meek what are you talking about? I didn’t see her anywhere; the last time I saw her…” She caught herself mid-sentence.

“Yeah, the last time you saw her what? What happened Kish?”

She dropped her head.“The day Reesie got locked up and I left the house for the first time. I walked inside of a crack house Meek; I don’t know why but I did.”

“Bullshit Kish! How you go in there and don’t know why? What the fuck were your intentions?”

She frowned.“Okay! Stop yelling at me! Damn…maybe I did have intentions, but the point is, I fought it and made a promise to myself that day; I didn’t do it Meek. I ran into my mama, and I swore I wouldn’t be like her. I swear.” She wiped a tear from the bottom of her eye.

I believed her, that’s all I needed to hear. “Come here.” I told her.

She walkedinto my arms and hugged me. “You have to trust me Meek. That’s not the life that I want baby, I promise you that.”

I kissedher lips and apologized. “I’m sorry for going off like that. I should’ve come and talk to you the right way. It’s just the way she said it, like she knew some shit that I didn’t know.”

“I understand, but you know me better than that. Where did you see her? Why were you even talking to her?” She wondered.
