She didn’t respond;instead, she took in the view and enjoyed the walk. We ended up hanging out all day but when we got back, Kisha wasn’t feeling well again so I kicked my shoes off and sat next to her with the TV on like I normally did.

“Meek?”She said looking up from the covers. “Remember we used to watch the reruns of ‘Crooklyn’ over and over imagining that we were in Brooklyn? We always said we’d go there one day. Did you ever go?”

I smiledat her and shook my head. “Nah, not without you.” I told her.

She looked backto the TV and continued to watch it. “Can you get me a glass of water please?”

“I’ll be back.”I walked out and went to the kitchen. Reesie was on the couch putting her boots on.

“Why aren’t you dressed?”She asked.

“Where we going?”

“Come on Meek, you said tonight, and I want my damn car. Like how long are you going to hold off?” She asked.

I leanedup against the counter and held the glass in my hand. “It don’t work like that, we haven’t checked this nigga out in months. I can’t go in without a plan Reesie and you know that shit. I gotta do me and check shit out again to make sure it’s safe for us both.”

“It’s safe Meek, damn.”She stood up putting her jacket on.

“What did I say Reesie?Damn, have I ever steered you wrong? People fuck up when they get greedy, you need to chill the fuck out.”

She rolled her eyes.“You know what? Fuck you Meek, ever since you got your friend back you’ve been catering to her every need fucking up our plans.”

“You better watch your mouth,Reesie. That girl never did shit to disrespect you. Calm the fuck down and chill out man. Damn, why you got a nigga arguing and shit? You and I never do this kind of bullshit. What happened to my ride or die?”

“Apparently she’s in the room.”She said putting her gun on her waist.

“You trippin’baby, just chill, that’s all I’m asking. I can’t leave Kisha right now and you know that. I honestly don’t think she’s strong enough.”

“So,let me get this right? I’m supposed to sit and wait until you feel like playing ‘tag you’re it’?”

“Don’t get slick.”I warned her.

“You know what?Don’t even worry about it; you want me to wait? I’ll wait, I’m about to go outside and get some fresh air.” She walked out.

I staredat her until she was out the door before walking back in the room with Kisha. “Here you go?” I said passing her the glass only to see that she was sleep. I sat it down and pulled the covers all the way up over her curvaceous body. Sitting back in the chair, I just stared at her admiring her beauty and her strength.

I must’ve dozedoff in the chair and woke up when the sun was coming up. Damn, Reesie didn’t even come get me. She must’ve been really mad at a nigga. I walked out to go find her and make up with her cause honestly we never had an argument before but like people always said, if you wanted to experience real and true love then see how a person would act when it was time to go through the trenches. I opened the room door and found that it was empty.

“Reesie, where you at ma?”She wasn’t in the bathroom, kitchen, or anywhere else for that matter. “Where the fuck did this girl go?” I mumbled picking up the phone to call her. It went straight to voicemail. To say that I was pissed was an understatement. I was getting ready to check outside when the house phone rung. “Yo.” I answered.

“Morning,is this Meek? This is Mya.” She said all cheery.

“Oh hey, what up Mya? How you been?” I asked her.

“I’ve beengood ya know? Hanging in there. Is Kisha up?” She asked.

“Hold on.”I said walking into the room holding the phone in my hand. Kisha was just waking up. “Here, it’s Mya.” I gave her the phone.

She coveredher morning breath and snatched the phone. “Damn bitch, can I wake up first?” She laughed. Yep, she was getting back to herself, and I know they were about to catch up like they never left.

I gavethem some privacy and closed the door only to walk out to a ringing cell phone. “Yo?” I answered and was greeted with a recording. Miami- Dade Correctional Facility, what the fuck?

“Meek?”Reesie said as soon as I accepted the call. “I’m locked up.”

I didn’t even wantto know shit over the phone. I told her ass to stay in the house. I took a deep breath and pinched the tip of my nose to stop from going off. “How much is the bond?” I asked.

She tooka long pause before answering me. “I don’t have one.”
