“Yo!”I heard a voice from the other side of the door.
I changedmy voice sounding like a distraught crackhead. “I need a hit man….what you got for me?” I asked with a hoarse voice.
The soundsof the door unlocking was like music to my ears. When it was only halfway open, I used my gun and hit the nigga with the butt of it knocking him to the floor as I pushed my way through. I had to move quick cause the nigga sitting at the tablehad his gun out getting ready to shoot my ass. He wasn’t quick enough, I put one in his chest sending him flying out of the chair and onto the floor.
I focusedback on the nigga I originally hit and aimed at him while using the other hand to close the door back. “Where the fuck is the money nigga?” I asked.
He heldboth his hands in the air as the blood leaked down the open gash in the side of his head. “Don’t shoot man! Just don’t fucking shoot!” He begged for his life. I looked at him begging through my ski mask.
“Getthe fuck up and point me to the money!” I warned.
He scuffledto his feet and with his hands still in the air he led me to an opening in the tile. A nice sized opening that held two large duffle bags. “Beans is gonna kill yo ass nigga.” He grabbed the bags slinging them across the floor towards the door.
I wouldn’t takemy eyes off this nigga cause one wrong move could cost me my life. I aimed my gun toward both of his legs and shot both of them. He fell backwards screaming like a bitch trying to hold the hole in his leg. I grabbed the bags and walked out, but not before taking the raw coke off the table and throwing it in the bags. I didn’t even fuck with coke but for some reason I was tempted to take it, so that’s what I did.
I ranacross the street to the car where Reesie awaited me on the lookout. She held her gun in her lap. Without me saying a word, she sped off. I took the mask off and tried to look casual as weheaded back to the Eastside. “Just like I said.” I looked at her. “A piece of fucking cake.”
That wasone down and two more to go. She cheesed from ear to ear. “Let’s go home, it’s still early. I’m officially 20.” She announced hopping on 95.
“Happy birthday baby.”I reached over and kissed her cheek.
“Thanks Meek.”She blushed.
“What’s on your mind?”I asked her seeing past her smile.
“You ever thinkthis shit will catch up to us?” She asked.
That wasa question that I really couldn’t answer. The only thing I could do was live for now, so that’s what the fuck I was about to do.
CHAPTER 5
“Don’t get out there and forget about me bitch. I always tell you that.” Mya stood in front of the group home hugging me while Kidd sat in the car waiting. It was officially my eighteenth birthday and time to finally leave this place.
“Oh, hush Mya.”I replied. “You know I’m calling you as soon as I get settled. You helped me to keep my sanity in this place, I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without you.” I told her smiling. “Where are you gonna go when you leave?” I asked her.
She shrugged her shoulders;she had two weeks left. “I’m not really sure yet.”
“Makesure you call me Mya. We’re finally free.” I said. “We had it rough but it’s time to leave all of that behind now.”
“You’re right.”She sniffed. “Did you forward a address for your diploma to be sent to you?” She asked.
I nodded my head.“Yeah, I did. I’m having it sent to Kidd’s address.” I had graduated a week prior, but I chose not to go to graduation, since I didn’t have any family that would be there. Kidd offered to go, but it wasn’t the same.
She threwher head up toward his Benz. “You better go ahead and go, don’t keep him waiting.”
I lookedat Mya one last time. I was going to miss the warmth that she brought with her presence and the twinkle in her eyes when she smiled, our late-night girl talks and gossiping trying to keep each other sane and erase the truths of our ugly past. I looked back at Kidd who sat there watching us.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“I’ll talk to you later.”She said.
We huggedone more time before I left her to go be with Kidd. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t nervous about this day at first. After going through everything that I’ve been through when I left the group home, so did the little scared Kisha.
“You finally free baby! You finally made it out the prison.” Kidd beamed all geeked up and excited.
“I’m sohappy but at the same time I really don’t know my direction right now.” I pulled down the visor and looked in the mirror as my long thick hair flowed down my back.
Kidd placedhis strong hand on my thigh looking me directly in my eyes. “Don’t worry, I told you I got you.”
