“Kisha Armani Rhodes! You hear me girl, get on out here. Look at you, you so beautiful.” She said. This time when I looked at her, she had her whole face smeared up against the glass lookinglike a black ass blowfish. “I heard you lived on this side of town Kisha! I’ve been looking for you.” She beat on the glass.
“Yo Kish.”Kidd said. “What the fuck? You okay?”
I shookmy head ashamed because everybody in the diner was focusing on us. “Kidd.” My lips trembled. “Get me the fuck out of here.”
He stoodup and looked at her shaking his head. “This shit is sad.” He mumbled.
Truthto the matter was my mama had been self-destructing for years; this time she was all the way out there. Kidd walked me to the back of the diner and through the kitchen. The manager stopped us on our way. “You can’t go though here.” He said.
Kidd pulleda fifty-dollar bill from his pocket and put it in his hand. “Albert?” He said reading his name tag. “We have an emergency, and we really can’t go out of the front.” He said.
Meanwhile,my emotions were all over the place. I never wanted to see her ass again. I don’t know why she couldn’t just leave me alone. She didn’t even want me when I was living with her. Now she wouldn’t even let me move on in life in peace. I wiped the tears from my eyes and pushed through the back.
“Stay right here.”He told me. “I’mma go get the car.” He said walking off leaving me standing there in the cold. A few minuteslater, I saw the headlights to his Benz coming down the side. He rolled down the front window. “Come on.”
I hoppedin the passenger seat and slammed the door before putting my seatbelt on. “Is she gone?” I asked.
“I gaveher fifty dollars to leave now. I gave her another two hundred to leave you alone and she was happy with that.” He backed out into the street as we rode with the windows down. The night air hit my face with a cool breeze as my body soaked up the butter leather seats. The scent of air freshener hit my nostrils. This was the first time ever that I’d rode in a nice car like this. My mama drove a bucket all her life, so this was luxury at its best.
Kidd turnedup the music and headed to the group home; it was almost curfew, and I needed to get inside. When we pulled up, he turned the music back down. “Kish, don’t even worry about that shit that just happened at the diner. You’ll be out of here soon and shit is about to start looking up for you. I promise you that.” He said.
I tooka deep breath and looked Kidd in his eyes. I hated that I had to see her again; especially like that, but he was right, I couldn’t dwell on that. This shit had me feeling like I was born not to win. I couldn’t let the devil trick me, not just yet; especially when I had a whole life to live.
“You’re right Kidd.Thank you for dropping me off.” I opened the door and let myself out as my grey Puma’s hit the pavement.
“If you can,try to text me tonight.” He said.
I leaneddown in the car holding the door with one hand. “I’ll try.” I replied. “See you another day Kidd and be safe out here.”
He grippedthe steering wheel with one hand. “I’m always safe.”
I noddedmy head and turned to walk away feeling nervous cause I knew he was watching me; all men watched me, and I hated it. Ever since Brittany had given me that makeover, taught me how to take care of myself, and my needs as far as being a young lady I’d been keeping it up. I buzzed for bell and showed my badge to be let inside. Looking at the time, I took a deep breath, I’d just beat curfew by five minutes.
CHAPTER 4
“See Reesie.” I said sitting at the table counting money while she stood behind me re-twisting my long dreads. “A few months ago, we didn’t know where our last meal was coming from but look at us now. I told you these lame ass niggas out here gettin’ caught up in the flashy life forgetting all about the fact that its niggas out here like me that’ll take all that shit.”
“You right.”She responded digging the tip of her finger inside of some Murray’s beeswax.
“Look at this shit.”I said in disbelief at all of the money I was staring at. With almost a year in, this shit was crazy. Reesie and I went everywhere doing whatever it took to get this money, but we had a rule. We didn’t fuck with any real niggas. We targeted a certain kind of nigga. If that nigga was foul, snorting his own product, out here selling to kids and or pregnant women and etc., then I was robbing his bitch ass taking all that I could forcing these niggas out the game one by one.
We rana two-man operation and so far, it worked. We didn’t fuck with new people we were our own team. After the first three months we moved out the projects and copped a nice house on the upper Eastside where it was quiet. I was moving low key as hell, so we were sharing one car right now, which was my Hummer truck painted in flat black. Reesie wanted a car, but I told her she had to wait, we had to be smart about the way we moved to stay under the radar. I was about to use this money to invest in something; I didn’t know just yet, but I was going to figure it out.
I hada few more people that I needed to hit. A nigga named Kidd from the lower side was one of them. Nigga was out here getting paid and was a lowkey coke head. To the naked eye one would never know because he wasn’t bad with it and controlled his shit, I wouldn’t have believed it hadn’t I seen it with my own eyes. Rule number one, don’t get high off your own supply. He didn’t deserve to keep eating out here, at least not as much as what was on his plate. That would have to wait a couple of months though because I had at least two on the list before him.
“Holdyour head back real quick Meek.” Reesie demanded trying to finish the top.
“Reesie, baby, this shit hurts man. You about to pull a nigga scalp to the white meat.” I frowned. “Shit!”
This wasthe first time that I’d ever had my hair re-twisted since I was a little boy. I was used to letting my shit grow out and do whatever it was going to do.
She giggledand took a step closer as she worked. She was so close, I felt the pussy print on my back through her thin tights causing an instant reaction from my dick. I reached up and grabbed her hand bringing her around to me. “Come here Reesie.”
She sucked her teeth.“Come on Meek, damn, my fingers are sore; just let me finish.” She complained. I looked up at her and gave her that look before staring down at those bowlegs that drove a nigga crazy. She muffled a smile and shook her head. “You always starting shit.”
I lookedat my dick at full attention through my basketball shorts. “Don’t blame me, blame him and blame these sexy ass legs.” I said placing both of my hands on her hips.
“You saythat now until you find you a fine bitch and a even nicer body.” She said like she was joking, but I knew she was serious because she always said shit like that.
