Jason flushes, ducking his head while Victor chuckles. “He doesn’t take compliments about his writing well.”

Dani nods. “I already know, which is why I make sure to tell him all the time.”

“Okay, enough.” Jason takes the book from Dani, flipping through it quickly. “Fuck, I wrote this one a while ago. I don’t remember where the scene is.”

Dani snatches it from him, flipping it to a page and holding up a bookmark in triumph. “But I do. This is one of my favorites.”

Jason blinks up at her for a moment before turning his attention back to the book. He reads it over before turning the page and reading more. I’m not sure what he sees, but something has him nodding. “Yes, this one will work perfectly for this group.”

“Excellent. Do you want to read it out loud or should I?” Dani asks, reaching for the book.

“Umm…” Jason puts the book behind his back. “Neither?”

“But Andrés and Maya need to know what the scene is. How are they supposed to know if we don’t read it out loud?”

“They could just read it,” he says, ducking his head as his cheeks turn pink.

Okay, so maybe I can see the appeal there. He looks adorable when he blushes like that.

I can’t help teasing him as I practically purr. “But, Jason, it would be so much better to hear the words as they’re intended by the author.”

Andrés smirks, his eyes catching mine for a moment before I look away. “Yeah, Jason. That really would be the best way.”

“But…I…” He glances at Victor, his eyes screaming for help, but his husband just grins.

“I agree with them.”

“Fucking traitor,” he hisses, pulling the book back out. “Fine. I’ll read it. Just don’t look at me while I do.”

Dani rolls her lip into her mouth, obviously trying to bite back her laughter as she nods and returns to her seat. She leans back, her eyes on the ceiling.

Andrés rolls his eyes but does the same. When Victor follows suit, I lean back and shut my eyes. It’ll be easier to imagine this way.

A shiver runs down my spine as he starts reading, and it’s not long until my thighs are rubbing together.

Yes, the scene is hot, but what’s making me wet is imagining us recreating it. This really is the perfect scene for us, and now I can’t wait to do this.

Chapter Thirteen

Dani

“Danielle?” Gary’s voice tells me he’s clearly annoyed with me as my head snaps up.

“Hmm?”

He scoffs. “You’re not paying attention to anything I’m saying.”

I bite back a groan. He’s right. I’m really not paying attention to what he’s saying. I don’t even know when I zoned out.

It’s really not my fault that it’s boring as hell when he talks about his law classes. I’m fairly certain his eyes would glaze over if I were talking about my accounting classes, too. I’m not even sure why he feels the need to talk about them so much.

Is he trying to impress me with his knowledge of the law? Because, honestly? I couldn’t care less.

I know he’s in law school, and I would hope he’s learning about the law. Otherwise, what would be the point?

“I’m sorry, I just have a lot on my mind tonight.”

He rolls his eyes, and it takes a concerted effort to keep my smile in place. “It always seems you have a lot on your mind when we’re hanging out. Your accounting classes can’t be so hard that you can’t pay attention to me when we’re together.”
