“Tina is a twin. They got into a wreck when the girls were four weeks old. Tina’s twin, Holly and her car seat were missing when paramedics got there. Hannah and Tim were unconscious,” Cynthia says. “The window was busted, so they assumed she was ejected and presumed dead in the lake. They looked for weeks to find anything but couldn’t… If you are Kendra Lennon, then my sister stole you. She died hours after their wreck… Hannah and Tim didn’t know there was a baby found. No one knew. I didn’t tell anyone to protect Susie.”
“Then…” I say slowly before looking at Marcus and Bellamy. “Okay… why the fuck couldn’t Collier figure this out? We’ve beenin town for what? Two hours? His goddamn cellphone pinged here.”
“Do you have a picture of Tina?” Marcus says.
“Uh. Yeah,” Hannah sniffs. She pulls her phone out and taps around before turning it around so that we can see. It is a booking photo for an arrest, I presume. It looks like me, only I have blue eyes and she has brown.
“Woah,” Bellamy says. “That’s… Are you sure you aren’t Tina?”
“Shut up,” I say. “Sorry. That was mean… okay… what the fuck?”
“We have her file from when she went into the system,” Marcus says. “If you aren’t going to hit her again, we can show you.”
“I won’t. I’m sorry… Tina. She… uh. She stole a bunch of narcotics from the clinic. And ten thousand dollars from our safe,” Hannah says. Mom? This is weird.
“Just follow us,” Bellamy says.
“Might need to feed her first,” Marcus laughs.
“What do you want? I can bring it with us,” Cynthia asks me.
“I’m okay,” I say.
“Absolutely not. You haven’t eaten today,” Marcus says. “Just hot wings with ranch and chocolate milk, if you have it.”
“Well, shit. No DNA test needed for that,” Hannah laughs, nudging Tim as though it’s some kind of inside joke.
“Hush, woman. It’s a good combination,” Tim says with a frown.
“He dips them in the damn milk,” Hannah says. I smile at Bellamy, and he shakes his head.
“I will throw up on you, woman. You better not,” Bellamy scolds, making me laugh.
“I’ll bring you what I normally get,” Tim says with a silly grin.
Chapter Thirteen
Kendra
I am pacing aroundthe motel room while both Marcus and Bellamy sit at the end of the bed and watch me. I am freaking out because I know what they are saying, but no one has directly said it yet. When there is a knock on the door, I nearly trip and fall running to it.
“Ah, fuck,” I say when I pull the door open. I go to swing it closed, but Collier blocks it with his hand and gives me a deadpan look as he walks into the room.
“Hey, look. Collier is here,” Bellamy laughs.
“Tell me why I shouldn’t arrest all three of you for interfering with an investigation?” Collier asks, sounding pissed. “I’m out here trying to find a damn serial killer, and I have to stop and look for you three because you disappeared.”
“Oh, shut the fuck up,” I say with an annoyed tone, making Marcus and Bellamy laugh. “You whine too much. Step down and just chill out you dick, Detective stick-up-my-ass,” I say. Collier arches an eyebrow at me, and someone knocks on the door.
“Don’t… You never listen,” Collier sighs when I pull the door open.
“Fair warning,” I say to Hannah, Tim, and Cynthia. “He’s a detective who likes to stalk me.”
“No wonder it takes two men to handle you,” Collier mutters.
“I sense this is important. We can…” Hannah starts to say.
“No, Detective Dipshit needs to hear this,” I say.
