“You’re welcome,” Martin says. “Please, be careful.”
“We will,” Bellamy says.
I turn and go upstairs while the guys follow me. We start packing in silence, not knowing what we are getting into. I notice that, on the way downstairs, Marcus pulls a pistol from his gun safe forhimself and Bellamy. It gives me peace of mind that we will have some sort of protection. This could be a massive mistake that we are making, but something tells me this is how I will get answers; I will find out who I really am.
Chapter Twelve
Kendra
The drive to Hawsonwasn’t too terrible, just over three hours. We found a cute little motel to stay in. While the guys get the bags out, I go inside to get us checked in.
“Just a minute,” a woman calls out when the door chimes at my entry. I am looking down at my phone while I wait for her. When I hear her, I don’t immediately look up.
“Tina?” She says. “Hello?”
“Hmm?” I say, looking up. “Hey. I just need a room. A king bed, preferably.”
“Are you… Sorry, what is your name?” she asks.
“Kendra,” I say sweetly. She seems to know me, but I don’t know her. “My partners and I are just passing through. This is a cute town.”
“Yeah… Do you know who Tina Waddell is?”
“I do not,” I say. “Do you have a king bed, or…”
“Oh. Yeah. Sorry,” she says with a nervous laugh. I pull my sunglasses off and search through my wallet to find my credit card.
“Do y’all take AMEX?” I ask, laying my card on the counter so I can find my ID. This doesn’t look like one of those seedy motels that pays by the hour, so I’m assuming she is going to want my license.
“Yeah… we do,” she says. I hand her my licenses right as Marcus and Bellamy come in.
“Hey,” I say.
“Marcus packs like a woman,” Bellamy says, kissing me.
“Well, that’s sexist,” I laugh. “But, yes. Yes, he does.”
“How long will you be staying?” the woman asks.
“Uh.” I look at Marcus for him to answer.
“Let’s do three days for now. Can we add more days if we need to stay longer?” Marcus asks.
“Yeah. That’s fine,” she says, seeming to talk easier with him. “It’s fifty bucks a night.”
“Oh, that’s not bad,” I say. “Can I leave the card on file so more days can be charged if we need?”
“Yeah,” she says simply before handing me my cards and the room keys. “You’re in room 122 at the end.”
“Thank you, ma’am,” I say sweetly.
When we walk out of the motel office, Marcus laughs. “What was her deal?” he asks.
“I don’t know. She asked if I knew Tina Waddell, though. Feels suspicious,” I say as we walk down to the room.
Once we get inside, I flop down on the bed and giggle when Bellamy lies on top of me. “So comfy,” he says, wiggling on top of me.
“You beast! Get off me!” I say, reaching back to tickle his side. He cackles and pulls back to flip me over. “Hey. Wouldn’t it be just terrible if I didn’t have panties on?”
