Where had he gotten that? Before he could even threaten Bram, I tackled him. We both splashed into the river.

Chris thrashed, trying to lift the gun from the river mud. Bram moved faster. Before anyone could blink, he was on top of him, ripping the weapon away and slamming Chris into the dirt with an animalistic roar. He reared back his fist, and for a moment, I thought he was going to kill him.

I didn’t even flinch. “Don’t,” I yelled. Not because I wanted to save Chris, but because I didn’t want blood on Bram’s hands.

Bram dropped Chris and lugged me out of the water. “Some fiancé you got there.”

I dropped the soaking wet robe. “He’s not my fiancé. Never was.”

My brute didn’t bat an eye at my nudity. If anyone else had, I didn’t notice. I only had eyes for him.

“Hell, if I would’ve known, I would’ve never let you leave with him.”

“Really? You wouldn’t let me?” I rolled my eyes.

“Yeah, I would’ve done this.” Bram threw me over his shoulder like a savage.

Chris creeped back into the water. Security dived in after him.

“Come,” Bram said, walking us away from the scene.

As the blood rushed to my head, I smiled.

I knew exactly what he meant.

As he carried me away from the chaos, Bram repositioned me in his arms. He leaned down and whispered, “We can’t stay long.”

I blinked up at him, confused, until he added, “I remember now. I wasn’t just lost. There was no plane crash. I was running. And someone here still wants me dead.”

“Here, as in at this wedding venue?”

“Yes, I think my fiancée tried to have me killed.”
