Krew stood and grabbed my hand, bringing my hand up to brush a kiss to. “If I’ll have you?” The tears were back in his eyes. “Love, I’ve never wanted anything more.”
And then his lips were on mine, sealing the promise of everything we’d just asked of each other.
Minutes later, I pulled back. “Krew, this coat is entirely too hot for this.”
“Take it off,” he demanded as he began pulling at it.
“Are you sure?” I asked. “You were the one commanding me to put it on and leave you.”
He shook his head and tossed it to the floor. “I tried to do the right thing. I tried not to be selfish with you. But then you stunned me by choosing to be bonded to me instead. You chose me.”
I heard a gentle knocking at the door.
“Owen,” we both said as we realized he’d been waiting outside the door this entire time.
Krew swung open the door with his magic and Owen came in, giving me a cautious look before seeing my coat on the floor next to us. “Oh thank the gods, the coat is off.”
Krew glared at him. “I hear you’ve been doing some research for Jorah without telling me.”
Owen gave him a smirk. “I’m not sorry about it, boss. She deserved to know her options.”
Krew rubbed his forehead and shut the door behind Owen while putting up a sound barrier with his magic all at once. “If either of you two could have explained to me what was going on, you could’ve saved the hell I put myself through this past week trying to rouse the courage to send her away.”
So maybe he hadn’t been struggling with only the news of his mother’s magic and his father’s role in her death. It was a combination of the two.
“Renna was the only one I told, and she gave me an earful tonight,” he added after the fact.
I grinned. I loved her so much.
Owen crossed his arms. “Well, if you had askedmeor talked to me about it at all, Krew, I would’ve told you that even if you sent Jorah away, she would come back. She’s a stubborn, annoying little gnat like that.” As he finished, he sent me a wink.
I wasn’t even mad.
“So now we are going to be bonded and married instead, you ass,” Krew finished explaining.
Owen gave me a look. “Woah, you took him from kicking you out to a proposal in five minutes? Damn, Princess. That’s some serious skill.”
I was fairly certain it had been longer than five minutes, but like the smartass I was, I curtsied for him.
“So you are officially off duty for the night now,” Krew added. “I don’t need you to take her away in the dead of the night while my father sleeps.”
“Your plan was lousy, Krew,” Owen said honestly. “Your father would have drug her back here for her blood and you know it.”
I snorted a laugh. “He has a point.”
“I had a plan to send for monthly samples of her blood.” Krew squinted at us. “Stop ganging up on me. I don’t like it.”
I giggled.
“I have one question though,” Owen asked. “How soon is this bonding and wedding happening? Because we are in the middle of an Assemblage here.”
Krew turned to me, going quiet and letting me decide.
“It can’t wait until the end of the Assemblages, I don’t think. Maybe a few weeks?” I offered. “Just enough time to make arrangements and make sure you don’t change your mind.”
“IfIdon’t change my mind?” Krew shook his head. “Woman, you are unbelievable. You are handing me...everything.” The heat of his eyes on mine made my pulse pick up. “Why would I change my mind?”
“Well, where can we even do this so we don’t get caught?” I asked. “I’m imagining getting married and bonded outside of the Assemblages would be frowned upon.”
