Owen gave me a shrug. “Looks like it, Princess. It is up to you now if you want to bond with Krew or not.”
I didn’t know what to think. We had gathered all the appropriate information and knew all the answers, and now I didn’t have to choose between two things I loved. I could have both. I would have to become Enchanted, but I could do it.
“You know what they say,” Owen began.
“What do they say?” I asked him while taking a deep breath.
Owen grinned. “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
I shook my head. “I wish I had magic right now, just so that I could send some at you. Knock that ego right on its ass.”
Owen rolled his eyes. “Please. You know I have better balance than you do.”
I leaned back down to see the grass, deciding to move the snow back over onto it just in case anyone happened to come by. While I was down there, I picked up some extra and chucked it at Owen, who had just turned to head back into the castle.
It hit his back and he stopped entirely. “You didn’t.”
“I did,” I said triumphantly.
And then he was moving, grabbing at the snow while I took off running for the castle.
Snowballs were being hurled at me, one hitting me in the back of my calf.
“Fastest I’ve ever seen you run,” Owen called from behind me as we both raced inside.

Silvia hadme in a red lacy and petal inspired dress for the New Year ball. My hair was mostly down. It had been weeks since the lashing, but I still had a mark there where I was healing. It’d gone from red, to purple, to pink, but despite Silvia’s best efforts, the mark was still there.
It had taken us longer than usual to get ready. I brought in one of the queen’s journals and read a part that mentioned Silvia when she was younger, and how highly the queen had thought of her.
So we’d been distracted after that.
By the time I was finally ready, I left the massive lavatory and thought I heard Renna’s muffled voice. Following it, I found her on the couch in the next room. When I walked in the doorway, the sound barrier Krew had put up fell.
“Hey,” I offered her with a smile. “You look great.” I wasn’t lying. Her turquoise-colored gown did wonders for her dark hair and skin color.
“Uhh, you too!” Renna said with a smile. “Oh no though. Krew’s going to drool.”
Krew turned to see what I was wearing, his eyebrows reaching up only slightly. “I am not.” He smirked at me. “That’s not to say I do not think you look gorgeous.”
I put my hands up. “Sorry to interrupt. But may I suggest something for tonight?”
Krew groaned. “Not again.”
Over the past week, I’d made them go on two “dates” around the castle, places where the king’s spies would see.
“Walk in with Renna tonight,” I offered. “Please.”
Krew’s eyes didn’t leave mine. “I’d rather walk in with you.”
Renna feigned offense. “Rude!”
“Please,” I added again.
“Fine,” Krew groaned. “But at this point my father knows of the four of you left, I only see the two of you.”
“Poor Isla and Cora,” Renna offered. “As if I didn’t get death glares from them enough.”
