She probably really would’ve loved this one. Too bad her father couldn’t have stopped threatening me.

Krew and Keir were beckoned to their father afterward, so I walked out with Renna. Molly soon found us.

As soon as we were away from the others, Molly leaned in. “How do you think her bosom stayed in with all that trapezing around?”

I felt my eyes bug out in shock. Of all the things I thought she would comment on or say about what we had just seen, I didn’t really think she would so promptly start off with bosoms.

Renna didn’t hesitate, “Tape. Definitely tape.”

I shook my head. “You two are horrible! Who cares about the state of her bosom? That was amazing.”

“Well, the state of my bosom needs chocolate,” Molly added. “I’m missing Nara.”

We all were. Nara had gone home and wasn’t present tonight. It wasn’t as noticeable tonight in a room full of extra people, but the next time we tried to play cards, there was definitely going to be a void. Granted Nara and Molly together fed off one another and viewed everything through a lens of sensuality, but at least it made the conversation lively.

“Me too,” Renna sighed.

“We should be happy and grateful, right? That the rest of us are still in?” Molly asked.

I shrugged. “If you ask me, it is rather rude of them to make us be friends just to send us all away, back to our little corners of the kingdom.”

As we made our way across the room for truffles, we saw Keir and Gwen talking with some Savaryn people. Maybe I should care, but I found I didn’t. If Gwen was his pick, so be it. I just hoped it was because Keir truly cared for her, not because she was a disloyal and helpful to the cause.

I was getting downright peeved withthe causeanyway. If Theon Valanova had been even half decent, his own sons wouldn’t need to be conspiring to not only take the crown, but to take him down also.

“Jorah!”

I spun to find Hatcher with Mr. Winston. “Hello, Mr. Ellsworth, Mr. Winston.”

“Having a good evening?” Hatcher asked while Winston looked like he just wanted to be gone from the three of us women.

I smiled. “Yes, indeed.” I paused, putting a hand on Renna and Molly’s arms to excuse myself as I stepped away a moment. “Please tell me, gentlemen, I am anxious to know, did our trip to Nerede help things?”

Of course I already knew that it had, but I wanted to play nice and pretend. I figured the more friends I had in parliament, the better.

Winston looked to Hatcher for a quick moment, then masked his surprise. “Yes, yes dear, it did.”

“I am so glad to hear it.”

After a little more chitchat, they quickly went on their way, and I rejoined the others. Keir had shown up and was now on the other side of Molly.

“So,” Renna was asking Keir as she sipped some champagne, “will this be a short night or a long one?”

“Long,” I muttered, realizing I had accidentally answered the question for Keir. “For me anyway,” I added.

“Big plans?” Molly asked with a mischievous glint to her eyes.

“Yes,” I said while cocking my head toward her. “I have been asked to play cards later. Five-card draw too, so you know it’ll take a while.”

“By whom?” Keir asked.

I looked at him and shrugged. “Your father.”

Keir’s head went back in surprise. “My how the tables have turned.”

I took a sip of my water. “Indeed.” I looked at Renna and Molly, “I’d much rather play cards with either of you. Even if Renna somehow managed to beat me again.”

“Just be careful,” Renna gritted out.
