“You wish to be free of this castle, I wish to take my father down. We have been doomed from the very start.” He let out a breathy laugh. “What are you doing to me, Jorah Demir?”

“I have no idea,” I admitted. “No idea. It was all just a ruse and then somewhere along the way, I felt as if we became friends. And now.. .”

“More?”

I gave him a nod. “More.”

“Let’s go to bed before I kiss you again,” he said, a mischievous smirk on his lovely face.

I rubbed a hand at my temples. “I’m not sure we should. You can’t kiss me like that and just expect me to fall asleep right away.”

He laughed again. “Go change. I’ll behave, I promise you.”

Crawling into his bed felt entirely different. We’d done this for four weeks now, and though we had skirted around our growing feelings for one another, we’d never faced them head-on like this either. Now that we had, it felt different.

Having also changed for bed, a now shirtless Krew moved to get under the covers, tossing our pillow barrier at the foot of the bed.

“Krew,” I warned.

“I promised I’d behave,” he repeated as he ran his fingers through my long hair. “I meant it.”

What was it about someone playing with your hair that felt so good? I knew he’d promised me, I just also knew that given our conversations lately and then the kiss downstairs, I was fairly certain we were playing with fire.

The type of fire that you wouldn’t even mind getting a little burned by.

CHAPTER21

Iwoke to someone saying my name and feeling gloriously warm. There was a weight over my stomach, and I realized I had slept tucked into Krew’s arms. We hadn’t been that way when I fell asleep but had wound up that way somehow in the night.

“Go away,” I groaned.

“We have training,” Owen whispered.

I grabbed one of the numerous pillows and chucked it in his direction.

He chuckled. “Starting the day out belligerent. Can’t wait to see what the rest of it has in store.”

Krew stirred next to me. “Want me to order him to get out?” His voice was sleepy and it about did me in. A sleepy Krew? I was doomed indeed.

“No,” I finally sighed. “He’s right. We have to train.”

“Grab both your snow boots and your training boots,” Owen ordered. “We’ll feed Rafe first and then head back inside for training.”

I sat up in the bed so fast it made my head hurt for a moment. “Wait. I have snow boots?”

He gave me a nod. “Yes?”

I gasped and bailed out of bed, running for the bathroom.

Owen laughed. “I need to remember this. Shoes get you moving faster.”

I shut the bathroom door only slightly harder than necessary.

Sure enough, in my section of Krew’s massive closet, Silvia had set out some gray snow boots and a small black backpack with my training boots next to it. In Nerede I’d had one pair of rubber boots, but I had never owned a pair of snow boots before. Granted they were a little ugly, but at the same time they were the most beautiful snow boots I had ever seen.

I brushed my teeth, threw my hair into a high ponytail, and changed as quickly as possible.

Ready for training, and still stunned Krew had actually stayed in bed until Owen woke us, I headed back out into his room.
