I shook my head. “Not at all. Keir was not for me, but that doesn’t mean I wish him any ill will.”
Molly gave her head a shake. “I hardly even remember what it was like before we switched Assemblages.”
I laughed. “I completely agree!”
She clinked her glass up to mine. “Forever we shall go down as the harlots wanted by both princes!”
A deep voice from behind us said, “So that’s what you’re calling yourselves?”
We spun to see Keir eavesdropping.
“Oops,” Molly offered, not sounding apologetic in the least.
Keir smirked.
“Your Grace,” I bowed. It seemed to remind Molly she should as well, which made me laugh. They must be getting closer.
“How are you both this evening?” Keir asked.
Molly gave him a shrug. “Is it rude to say that all these balls are kind of getting monotonous?”
“Sweetheart, they got monotonous months ago,” Keir offered.
I snorted a laugh. “Agreed.”
I turned slightly, wondering where Krew had run off to. It wasn’t that I minded being near Keir at all anymore. After our conversation following the attack on Krew in Nerede, the air was cleared, and we were fine.
“Looking for my brother dearest?” he asked, picking up on it.
I guess I was too obvious. “Yes. Worrying about the two of you is becoming the only thing I do these days.”
Keir let out a laugh. “I am decidedly less sulky as of late.”
“Oh that word,” I groaned. “Do not.”
Keir laughed. “Maybe you should just come right out and ask him to stop sulking.”
I shook my head. “No. It would have to be worded like a request but actually a command. Like ‘I do wish you’d stop sulking’ or something like that.”
Keir was laughing even harder. “Yes! Exactly.” Seeing something out of the corner of his eye, he disappeared for a moment.
“Probably saw Gwen,” Molly whispered to me.
I reached out and gave her a quick hug. “I know the feeling well, Molly. I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for what?” Keir asked as he rejoined us. “I only went to grab these,” he said as he handed a truffle to Molly and then to me, “knowing how the two of you enjoy your truffles.”
“My prince charming!” Molly said dramatically with a hand to her chest.
“Thank you,” I smiled, taking a bite. I felt someone grab ahold of my arm. Before I could even finish my first bite, I was spun right into the eyes of the king.
He pulled me away a few feet, no one daring to come near us. “What, same old games, Jorah of Nerede? Krew came in with Renna, so you are getting back at him by flirting with Keir?”
“No.” I shook my head and pulled my arm out of his grip. Not just because I didn’t want his hands near me, but also because if Krew saw it, he’d try to kill him tonight. Right here and now. “No, Your Grace. I was only talking to Molly.”
“Father,” Keir said roughly. “Stay out of it. Jorah did nothing wrong. I was the one that came over here to interrupt the two of them.”
The king ignored him entirely, keeping his attention on me. “I thought you learned this lesson already.”
