“And the women in my Assemblage are not going to like how much attention I give you tonight,” he provided with a wince.

“Are you going to kiss me again?” I asked bluntly.

Renna choked on her bite of food. Apparently, Krew must not have told her quite everything.

Krew just looked at me with an amused smirk. “Would you like me to?”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m just wondering how hard we are selling this tonight.”

Krew took a moment to think it through. “No. No kissing tonight. It would be rather effective, but I fear that would send my brother over the edge. Dancing, yes. Flirting, definitely. But you’re off the hook tonight, love.” He paused. “But you’ll have to try your best not to flinch or hesitate when I take your hand or dance with you.”

I nodded while I swallowed a bite of my food. “Okay. That makes sense.”

“I’m more concerned with how you’re going to react to Keir,” Krew said. “How you act tonight will set the tone for father’s level of suspicions.”

CHAPTER4

Iran a hand down my gown. It was extravagant. Possibly my favorite of all the dresses I had worn. One of my shoulders was bare, the other covered in a dark navy lace and sequins, giving it almost a torn look as it branched its way up the length of my arm. And then at my chest the torn look gave way to a deep navy silk gown. Other than the generous slit up the leg, I was fully covered. No cleavage. My back was covered. And yet somehow, I felt more seductive than I had in any of the others.

This dress was a masterpiece. How they’d made it in such little time was a miracle.

Keir had sent me a package. It sat on the bed. Chocolate truffles and a bracelet. I knew he wanted me to wear the bracelet and touch it when I was thinking of him. Like we used to do.

I wasn’t wearing it.

It was time to move on. Not with Krew necessarily, but to freedom. To choosing better for myself.

I heard footsteps and knew Krew would be coming into his own bedroom to talk to me. The clacking noise stopped so I spun toward the doorway.

I looked up to find him in his black tailcoat staring at me, eyes trailing me head to toe. He gave his head a little shake.

“Well there’s no need to look so aghast,” I scolded.

Krew’s eyes found mine. “You look even more lovely than I imagined you would. That’s all.”

“Well either your imagination is flawed—”

“Or you look exceptionally stunning,” he finished.

I smirked.

He adjusted his jacket. “I am about to head down. Would you like to go with me?”

My eyebrows reached together. “Do you normally go in with anyone?”

He shook his head in an answer.

“No,” I provided. “Then no thank you. No special treatment.”

He took a few steps closer. “I will be giving you lots of special treatment tonight, Jorah. I must if we are to maintain this ruse.”

I held my head high. “Yes, but I think the whispers would actually be worse if I came in on your arm than if I merely show up in the wrong hue of blue.”

“That is absolutely the correct hue of blue on you,” he said as he looked over my gown again.

I squinted. “Save the flirting for downstairs, My Prince.”

He looked at me a moment as if thinking about something and then finished making his way over to me. He towered above me. Not as much as Keir had, but he was so much taller in comparison to my short stature. He filled his frame out a little more than Keir did too. He was a little thicker, while Keir was more slender. I tried not to think of that blessed collar bone I got a glimpse of this morning.
