She giggled. “The gloves are off?”

And just like that we were laughing. I didn’t know how I got to this moment. From trying to stay away from any and all Enchanted, to befriending two of them within four days, but here we were.

And I was nothing but grateful.

CHAPTER16

“The evening meal cannot move any slower tonight,” Renna groaned.

“Bring on the dessert,” Gwen added.

“Will you be at the event tomorrow?” I asked Renna quietly.

She sighed. “Yes. Though for the record, I like these events better than those.”

“What?” Molly asked. “But you don’t even like these.”

It went without saying that Molly and Molly’s family would not be invited tomorrow.

“Exactly,” Renna muttered.

“Well good luck?” I asked with a shrug.

“Thanks,” she whispered as the dessert finally did arrive. Fortunately for me, it was a decadent chocolate cake. Hands down the best part of the evening so far.

As soon as the dessert was over, we were free to socialize. I always hated this part, having to wait around and chitchat. I knew most of the women on a first name basis by this point, but none of them, except for maybe Renna, Molly, and Gwen, very well. We all knew there was no point in making lifelong friendships when we were vying for the same two men.

Rinaldi found me shortly after, handing me a water.

“Thank you, Rinaldi,” I smiled.

He fidgeted, moving his weight from one foot to the other.

“Are you okay?”

He shook his head. “I was to bring this to you and give you a message.”

My forehead creased. “What’s the message?”

“That you should stop drinking champagne and keep to the water. That you need to keep your wits about you.” He winced and added, “Again not my words, Ms. Demir.”

I looked at the nearest gaudy chandelier and tried my best to not roll my eyes. “And who might have sent this message?”Keir? Prince Krewan? Owen?

He looked at the ground. “I am not to say.”

I rubbed a hand at my temple. “I only had one glass of champagne, for the record.”

He gave me a wince of a smile. “It is none of my business what you do or do not drink, miss, other than I am to deliver it.”

I smirked. “Well, I was only going to drink water for the rest of the night anyway, so you can kindly tell whoever sent you to shove it.”

Rinaldi laughed. For some reason his laugh lightened the evening a bit.

Realizing what I had just said, my eyes went wide. “Unless of course it was the king. Please do not tell the king to shove it.”

Rinaldi laughed harder. “Yes, miss. I’ll return in an hour or so with another water for you.”

I squinted at him playfully. “Unpoisoned?”
