“I know it sounds as bizarre as it is. Rafe led me all the way back to their den,” I admitted.

“Their?” Krew asked. “How many?”

I gave him a quick smile. “There are nine wolves that I counted. Still alive.”

Keir shook his head. “That’s...”

“Incredible,” Krew finished for him.

I shrugged. “I know I sound insane.”

“But it explains why we couldn’t find you,” Owen offered.

“Once it got dark, Rafe left the cave, and I followed him. I had no idea where we were. I was lost entirely. But he walked me back to the hedge.”

Owen started laughing.

I gave him a look, not understanding his sudden outburst. I also couldn’t finish working on his cut when he was giggling away.

“You’ve been feeding those wolves for a month, Jorah. And then they had your back when you needed help.” He shook his head. “You and that damned forest.”

He was right. My infatuation with that forest had saved me. “So now what?” I asked the three of them. “What happens now? Other than Owen should probably have stitches for this deep part.”

Owen huffed.

“Now our father gets to punish Michael Noyer,” Keir supplied. “And knowing our father, I think it is safe to say that Michael will not make a move that the king doesn’t know about from here on out.”

“So I’m safe? Until next time?” I asked as I handed Krew the lid for the ointment.

A knock sounded on the door and Easton entered. “Your father has requested Raikes and both princes.”

Keir stood. “Stay with Jorah,” he commanded.

Easton gave a nod. “Yes, sir.”

Keir approached me and took my hand, as if surprised I didn’t yank it away. “I’ll be right back, all right, sweetheart?”

I gave him a nod and he turned to leave.

Owen grabbed his shirt and I helped him get back into it without lifting his arm on the side of his injury.

As Owen stood and followed Keir, Krew handed the ointment to me but paused just before dropping it into my hand. “There’s a scratch on your face that may need this.”

“Oh,” I said, remembering the branch. “Thanks.”

He squinted and gave his head a shake. “And Jorah?”

“Yes?”

“They’ll pay. They’ll all pay for what was done to you. For every scratch and for every moment you felt terror in that forest.”

And with his magic crawling along his skin, His Royal Moodiness was out the door.

CHAPTER41

Another ball. I wanted to skip it. But according to Owen, the king wanted to make sure I was okay. So I had to go.

Gold was the theme for Keir’s women. Silvia informed me there were four more women gone from Keir’s Assemblage. We were down to twelve women in each harem.
