“She what?”Prince Krewan snapped, his eyes landing on me.

“Rage bake?” Keir asked softly.

I gave him a grimaced smile. “Yes.”

Prince Krewan strode in my direction quickly, his fancy shoes eating up the ground. I got the impression that when he did such things, his target probably figured out a way to disappear or at the very least back away from him.

But I wasn’t going to be one of that kind of target.

“Jorah,” he said sternly. “I didn’t mean to send you sulking to the kitchens. You didn’t have to do that.”

I groaned and looked up at the ceiling. “There’s that damned word again.”

Keir stepped up beside me, a hand on my lower back. He leaned in and whispered, “Sulk? If it’s any consolation, I hate it also.”

I almost wanted to laugh. Almost. But Prince Krewan was still looking at me in the strangest way.

“Why would you do that?” he asked. “You know they whisper about you. You know the king doesn’t like that you’re from Nerede. So why would you do anything that reminds them?”

I squinted. “Because those people, the bakers and cooks and servants, those aremypeople, Your Rudeness. Iron Will or not, fancy ball gowns or not, I am a baker. And though the rest of you may have a problem with it, I do not.”

Owen added, “You’re taking away her trips home, Krew. She found a way to remember home from within all your damn rules and limitations. Don’t take that away too.”

He genuinely looked so confused, his forehead wrinkled as he looked to each of us. “You truly wished to be in the kitchens?”

I didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”

He let out a breath. “Well, I may be concerned about the safety of the Nerede trips you take and how frequent they are, but I never meant to make you feel like a servant, Jorah.”

I opened my mouth just to slam it shut. What? Was he actually being nice? “So I can go back?”

“To the kitchens?” he asked.

I nodded.

“Of course,” Prince Krewan stated. “You are a woman in the Assemblages. I don’t think you realize the power you hold right now. You are the only woman of Keir’s Assemblage sleeping up here. The last thing you should be feeling right now is like a servant. And I apologize if our conversation this morning made you in any way inclined to feel that way.”

A guard that I had seen with Keir numerous times walked in. “We have to go. Correction. We had to go fifteen minutes ago.”

Keir brushed a kiss to my temple. “See you later, sweetheart.”

And then the crown princes were gone, leaving me in their wake.

I put my hands on my hips and looked at Owen. “So he’s confusing.”

Owen crossed his arms and chuckled. “Wait. Which one? Krew or Keir?”

“Yes. Both.”

He laughed. “I have never agreed with a person more.” He walked over to a shelf next to Keir’s fireplace and tossed something toward me, which I easily caught.

Cards.

“I’ll ring for Silvia,” he offered.

“Why? I can get out of this dress on my own.”

He snorted. “You can keep your clothes on, honey. I was going to ask her if she wanted to play cards with us.”
