The king had tried to knock me out. Tried and succeeded but didn’t get my blood or whatever it was he was after. Or so we thought. As long as Prince Krewan hadn’t done it for him once I passed out. So what did all this mean? Would the king try again?

Now what?

I wasn’t sure I wanted to sit around and wait for whatever came next.

Silvia was backand brought with her some bread and soup for me to eat. I sat at a table in Keir’s room only because it was closest to the view of the forest.

Owen sat across from me while I ate. He was quiet for once. Far too quiet.

“Yes?” I asked him.

“I’m just worried about you,” he admitted.

My hazel eyes went to his green ones. “Well, you might be about to get more worried.”

He squinted. “Why? Are we rage baking tonight?”

I shook my head and smiled. “Hey, Silvia?”

“Yes, dear?” she said as she peeked her head around the corner. My dresses had begun to be delivered to Keir’s quarters. Silvia and I had chosen the room with the best view for my new room, even though it faced the courtyard and not the forest. Neither room available did, only Keir’s. In my new room I still had my own lavatory. Keir’s wing was massive, to say the least. There were three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, and two large sitting rooms.

“How long would it take to get me evening dinner ready?”

Her eyes went wide. “You wish to go?”

I shrugged. “Possibly.”

She looked to her wristwatch. “They’ve already started the salads.”

“I only wish to show up for dessert,” I told her.

She grinned. “Then we have an hour. Come with me.” She led me toward Keir’s bathroom instead of my own.

Owen stood, shaking his head as we passed by him.

“What?”

He smirked. “Actually, this makes me less worried. Still a stubborn ass. You’re going to be just fine.”

Silvia led me into a bathroom that had been the size of my entire cottage in Nerede. Keir’sbathroom.

My breath caught and I froze in my tracks while Silvia shut the door behind us.

She started turning the knobs on a gigantic tub that looked like it was made of gold. “Might as well use his tub just this once while he’s gone, don’t you think?” There was a shower also, but the tub was big enough for four or more people. I was so short, I wasn’t sure when I sat down in the water if you’d be able to see my head from over the top of the tub.

Though I never wanted to leave this tub and bathroom, I decided I was going to have to face the king eventually. It might as well be now.

The dress colorfor Keir’s women happened to be black, which kind of fit the delayed rage I felt brewing within me from the king’s attempt to knock me out. My dress was a satin strapless one, smooth and soft until the level of my knees, where black sparkles rained to the floor. Due to the time constraints, Silvia did a simple updo with my hair, a braided and elegant bun.

I took a deep breath outside the double doors to the grand staircase. I had checked every inch of my body while in the tub for any sort of needle prick marks or any bruises and had found none. So maybe Prince Krewan really had just delivered me to Keir.

“There’s no going in undetected this time,” I muttered both to Owen and also myself in a pep talk.

“You’ve never been a wallflower,” he said quietly. “Not from the start.”
