She laughed some more. “I only laugh because of your accuracy.”

Renna joined us on the arm of Prince Krewan. “Whatever did you do to her?” she asked me, tilting her head toward Molly.

I winced, though I was having a hard time not laughing also, and unfortunately blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “An accidental indecent exposure?”

Molly snorted as she continued laughing herself to the brink of tears.

Prince Krewan shook his head. Before he turned to leave, he looked at me and stated, “Never a dull moment.”

I didn’t care though. I couldn’t help it the castle had a literal mountain shoved up its ass.

We did get ourselves together, but only to whisper and chat. Mostly about cards, a little about the room before us. Four more women had gone home today, so we were down to twenty-four in each Assemblage.

Two dozen women standing between royal titles, crowns, and for one... becoming queen.

I played with my bracelet and looked for Prince Keiran but didn’t find him. Ten minutes later, I saw him walking in a woman named Delaney. They seemed quite taken in with each other.

I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I never watched or tracked who Keir spoke to until now. I should just ignore it like I usually did. But for some reason I wanted to see who would be my replacement.

“Sorry,” Gwen whispered as we lined up to be dismissed.

I sighed and gave her a shrug. At least I had known it was coming.

Keir was still alternating dismissing me first and last. Tonight I would be first.

“Jorah,” he said, his eyes drilling into mine. “May I walk you to the door?”

I bowed slightly. “Yes, Your Grace.”

I took his elbow and as soon as we were out of earshot of the others, he let out a long sigh. “You look great. I miss you.”

I smirked. “You usually only have fifteen or twenty minutes with me to yourself anyway.”

He shrugged. “Twenty minutes I shall make up for in a bit. See you later?”

I nodded. “See you later.”

It wasn’t as lateas it had been the night before when he made his way to my room.

“Do all the women have hidden doors to their rooms?” I asked him as he came in. I was sitting in my new chair at the window, wearing another set of my silk pajamas.

“Some do, most do not. Maybe five or six.”

That was a vague answer that only made me want to see the blueprints of this massive castle.

Keir approached me to perch on the arm of the chair. “May I sit with you?”

I nodded.

He scooted closer and that was when I realized that this chair was perfectly sized for the two of us to sit here and rock while looking out the window.

“Well played,” I murmured. “Here I thought this chair was for me.”

“Oh but it is,” he smirked.

“Conveniently oversized enough for two people?”
