Three days later, I still felt very much done. I was still pissed. I had sequestered myself in my room. The only time I left was to feed Rafe, otherwise I read or slept the day away.
Owen threw open the curtains. “Up and at ‘em.”
“Rafe didn’t even eat the food we left yesterday,” I groaned as I rolled over, tucking the blankets closer around me.
“Jorah.”
I sighed. “Owennn.”
And then the comforter was ripped off me.
“Hey!” I sat up angrily. “What if I slept naked?”
He squinted. “You don’t.”
I squinted back. “But what if I suddenly got the urge?”
He stared me in the eyes. “Looks like you didn’t. So get up.”
I was beginning to hate him for making me get up every day. I didn’t understand why he couldn’t just leave me to mope. “Fine.”
Silvia was there by the time I finished using the lavatory and brushing my teeth. Why I needed to get ready to sit around all day was beyond me.
Ready for the day, Owen opened the door for us to head down.
As we turned the corner to head for the main doors, there sat both crown princes at the table in Keir’s room.
I aimed a glare at Owen.
“They weren’t there when I came to wake you,” he said with an innocent shrug.
Great.I ignored both princes and kept heading for the door.
“Jorah.”
My shoulders tensed at the same time my feet automatically stalled. But I didn’t want to speak with Keir yet, prince or not. Remorseful or not.
With a deep breath, I took another step forward.
“Jorah.”
I spun around. “What?”
“Would you like to go for a walk?” Keir asked gently.
My eyes went to Krew’s for the briefest moment before looking back to Keir.
“No,” I snapped. “I’d like to go feed Rafe in peace and then I’m going back to my room.”
That may have been harsh, but I was over this whole experience.
Keir didn’t say a word, but his eyes never left me as I stormed out of the room.
Owen and I left the food for Rafe and then per our usual, we went to check on the Dead Lake. While we were walking the bizarre and barely-there trail, the top of my foot caught on a fallen branch, and I pummeled toward the hard, damp forest ground.
I rolled over and looked up at the browning leaves in the trees above me, the blue and white whisps of clouds barely visible through the tapestry of branches and leaves, and I wondered how I had even gotten to this point. I was in the final sixteen of Prince Keiran’s Assemblage. I was sleeping in his personal wing two doors from his very bedroom.
And the worst part?
