His dark chuckle as he moved off the bed sent shivers down my spine. I followed him up until I was sitting so I could slide my dress off. Fire burned in his darkened eyes as his gaze slowly trailed down me as he pulled his clothes off.

My mouth watered as I took him in. One of his hands ran through his hair, grabbing his horn. The other ran down his chest until he reached his hard cock. My thighs clenched with his slow stroke.

“See what you do to me?” Atlas’ voice was a dark rumble. “I want you so bad I ache.”

“Please,” I whimpered, running my hands down my thighs.

“Tell me what you want, witchling.”

My cheeks burned as I tried to find the words.

“I want…” My voice hitched as I ran my fingers where I was soaked for him. His hand quickened as his gaze was glued to my fingers. A groan slipped past his lips. “I want you to make love to me.”

“As you wish,” he mumbled before crawling back into bed.

His lips were heated as they met mine. My legs slid open for him as I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. He answered me as he slid deep inside me. I pulled away from the kiss with a moan. Atlas’ head fell to my neck as he stayed there. My fingers wrapped around his hair. I was about to start begging him to move when he finally did.

He was slow to pull out, and even slower to thrust back in. My mind was split. I wanted to yell at him to go faster, but right now, I could feel him hitting every amazing spot inside me. My nails clung to his back as he kept the slow pace.

“Do you feel it, Cece?” he whispered in my ear. “My love for you?”

I nodded with a whimper. Words were quickly escaping my mind as I let the pleasure overtake me. I just hoped he could see the look in my eyes. That I felt it for him, too. The ember jumped to life in my chest. I ripped my hands away from him before I could burn him. With a growl, Atlas grabbed my hands, putting them back on him.

“If you are going to burn, let me burn with you,” he growled, quickening his thrusts. “Mark me so I never forget how good I can make you feel.”

I cried out as I felt my end nearing. My legs wrapped around him, keeping him close. Atlas cursed as he fully laid on me. He grabbed one of my legs, raising it as he continued to possess me with each powerful thrust.

“I’m going to claim you just as you’ve claimed my heart,” Atlas moaned, his breaths coming out in labored pants as his eyes slipped close.

His words were enough to send me over the edge. I cried out as pleasure coursed through me. Atlas cursed, thrusting one last time before he followed me with a cry of my name. Our lips met with a final kiss that was mostly just heavy breathing.

Atlas pulled away, but he didn’t go far; simply laying on the bedbeside me, pulling me until I was laying on top of him. His arms wrapped around me in a tight hug.

“No matter what happens tomorrow,” Atlas started, “thank you for giving me this glimpse of true happiness.”

“There will be more to come,” I promised him, placing a kiss against his chest.

By the time I woke,Atlas had our things packed. We were the only ones in the cabin. Leon had stayed with Bekah the night before, preparing for the worst outcome. Atlas had briefly filled me in about our rapidly approaching deadline. We either succeeded in overcoming Eris, or Kilrest would become a battlefield. No pressure. All we needed to do was go to Kilrest, and I would find a way to distract Eris so Atlas could kill him. I was sure it would be exactly as easy as it sounded.

Nausea twisted my stomach as we walked through the forest. Neither of us had much to say. Atlas had his gaze fully trained on the trees around us. Every small snap or rustle of the leaves had his head jerking in that direction. His hand would grab onto mine, bringing us to a complete stop until all was silent again. Then we would keep moving.

There was so much that could go wrong within these next couple days. From the memories that had come back, Eris was just as bad as Atlas had told me. There was a back room in the temple that only locked from the inside, where my father would hide us children whenever Eris would come by. My job was to lock the door once everyone was in and wait until I heard our word, then I could open the door. It took a solid year before Atlas was even allowed to see me, let alone steal me away even in the middle of the day.

Thankfully, we weren’t left in this state of fear for long. We had only been walking for a few hours when the trees started to thin out. Faint voices could be heard over the wind. The sounds of moving water got louder as we passed through the last of the trees.

We were standing on a hill, a small river directly in front of us. There was a rock path that followed the water down to where a city rested. It was as if the land had been scooped out just for this place to be built. Mountains pierced the skies on one side. The other side led right to the ocean. Buildings covered everything I could see. There was a beauty in it as we walked down the path. Yet, I couldn’t help the dread that sunk like a weight in my stomach. We had to be successful. If a war broke out here, there was nowhere for anyone to run.

“Welcome home.” Atlas broke the silence.

There was no joy in his words. They were void of any emotions as he kept his gaze trained forward. It certainly did nothing to help the dread that was blanketing over me. The breeze cut off as we entered the basin. There was still a chill as we entered the city. I wrapped the cloak tight around me.

I kept close to Atlas as people stared around us. My gaze was focused on the path we walked across. If people across Feycrest hated him, I didn’t want to see the looks we were currently getting.

“Atlas!”

My body tensed as his name was yelled out from somewhere behind us. My eyes were wide as I looked over to Atlas. His expression was nowhere close to matching mine, though. His brows were furrowed until he spotted the man who yelled. His brows dropped, mouth peeling back in a wide smile as an older man ran up to us. He pulled Atlas into a very enthusiastic handshake.

“Where have you been? Bran has been working on some new goodies that I’m sure you’d love.”
