“Did I make you late?” Not the first impression he’d want to make with her family.

“Oh no, no, no,” Debbie scrambled to reassure him. Okay, maybe that was him being hopeful. “I’m not scheduled to be there for another thirty minutes. I’m just habitually early to help Uncle Buddy prep.”

“Whew, didn’t want to start out with your family on the wrong foot,” Rafe said with a smile.

“I think you’ll be just fine. Guess I do need to head out though. How much do I owe you?” Debbie reached into her bag.

“No you don’t. Did you think I was going to make you pay your way? I asked you out, I pay.” His mother would cosmically know if he let a date pay her way and the lecture he’d get would have his ears ringing for decades.

“All right but next time is on me,” she said pushing her wallet back.Oh he liked the idea of a next time. The waiter came back and with a double check, Rafe added a generous tip and signed.

“Deal.” Rafe put the folio down and stood. “I’m working tonight but have all day tomorrow?”

“Let me check with my uncle and see what he needs me for during break down tomorrow and give you a call.” Debbie slid out of her seat and wrapped her arm around Rafe’s waist. Now that move had his attention.

He wrapped his arm around Debbie’s waist and led her out of the restaurant. When they got to her car, Rafe leaned his back against it and pulled her close. He looked into her eyes and seeing acceptance in them, he leaned in and kissed her. Feeling her lips against his made every coherent thought leave his brain. All he could think about was her. Slipping his tongue out to trace her lips, hers was right there. They both seemed to open wide at the same time and he ran his tongue around hers in a caress. Rafe pulled her closer and he felt her shift against his hard-on. Christ, he’d gone from zero to a hundred in two point two seconds.

“Mmmm,” Debbie murmured as she pulled back to drop her head against his chest.

“Mmmm, is right but maybe we should take this up when we’ve got a bit more time?” Rafe joked softly. He was having a hard time controlling his breathing as it was.

“Definitely. I’ve got to get moving or I will be late. Then I’ll never hear the end of it from my uncle. Text you later?”

“Please.” Rafe wasn’t above begging for this woman. “Text when you can. If I don’t answer right away, don’t worry. Might be on a call or something.”

Debbie nodded but didn’t move away. Yeah, he didn’t want to let her out of his arms. They stood there for another minute or two.

“Okay, I’ve really got to go this time.” Debbie pulled back and Rafe pushed off her car. He held the door for her as she slipped in. After she turned the ignition, Debbie rolled down the window and Rafe leaned on the sill.

“Seems to me this is where we started?” Rafe teased.

“Hush you, give me a kiss and I’ll text later.” Debbie pursed her lips. He wasn’t stupid. That was an offer she would never need to make twice.

“Talk to you later,” he murmured as he pulled back and watched her drive off.
