Mooney drifted in and out of sleep. After they’d gotten the others situated, they’d tried to climb through the glass to look for the co-pilot but Mooney couldn’t pull himself through with one arm and Bristol was too shaky. Williams and Evans had woken up a few hours after the accident. He wasn’t sure how long it had been since the accident; he hadn’t been paying attention to the time during the flight. The pilot was still out which was starting to worry Mooney. What did he or any of them know about head injuries or anything else? None of them were medics. A noise had them all snapping to awareness, shifting their rifles to the opening in the cockpit.

A face appeared in the opening that Mooney could barely make out in the dim light. Just as Mooney started to pull back on the trigger, he heard a voice he knew.

“Let command know we’ve located the downed copter and will begin extraction as soon as possible,” Blade instructed before he spoke to them. “Luna? You in there?”

Mooney dropped the barrel of his rifle to point at the ground and motioned for the others to do the same. “Blade, are you going to save me for eternity?”

“One good, deserves another, right? Is medical assistance required?” Blade responded.

“Yeah. We’ve all got some injuries. Did you find the co-pilot?”

Blade nodded but didn’t say anything. Fuck. “Beatle, get Truck over here. They’re going to need his attention as soon as we get them out of the copter.”

It didn’t take the Delta guys long to knock out the remaining glass and then Beatle climbed in. He took one look at them all and shook his head.

“Luna, you first, then the rest follow. I’ll grab the one still out.” Beatle reached for the pilot and gently put him over his shoulder. “Let’s move.”

“Why don’t you try and get some sleep, Debbie?” Kevin suggested from where he was sitting against the couch on the floor.

Debbie turned from where she was pacing and looked at him. Was he nuts? Like she was going to be able to sleep?

“Kevin? Did you hit your head on something?” She couldn’t believe he’d think she could sleep at a time like this.

Danny leaned over the side of the couch and smacked Kevin upside the head. “Seriously? What are you thinking?”

Kevin had the decency to blush. “I was thinking that she was going to need some energy in about two hours when the boys got up.”

Debbie dropped her head to her chest. The boys were going to want to know why their uncles were there. She’d faked it yesterday but there was no way that she would be able to keep that up long.

“Anyone want something to drink?” Spook shook the mug in his hand. His phone rang just as he got to the arch leading to the kitchen. “Master Sergeant Casper.” He listened to whoever was on the other end before a smile formed on his lips. “One moment.” Spook held the phone to Debbie. “It’s for you.”

“Hello?”

“I’m okay. Bumps, bruises, a concussion and a dislocated shoulder. But I’m alive and okay.” Debbie gasped and tears traced down her cheeks. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Come home to me,” she whispered.

“As you wish, as soon as I can.”
