Not going to add to her husband’s worries; wanting him to be focused completely on his and his soldiers’ safety, Debbie did what every good military spouse did.

“The boys and I will be just fine. I’m positive the heptad will be checking on usconstantly,” she said teasingly. “I’ll probably take the boys to the farm for the holidays unless your parents want to come and stay with us.” Luny’s parents were always on the go. They’d bought a RV and drove here, there and everywhere. Said they loved the freedom. Must be where Rick had gotten the driving gene from.

“The unit probably won’t leave until late September. Need to get us all in and working together, if possible. I talked to the first sergeant and there’s an active family group, if you’re interested.” Debbie nodded before he even finished the sentence. She’d spent a lot of time working with the support advisors in their unit since Luny’s first deployment. Helping out spouses overcome issues made her feel empowered.

“We’ll make this work. I can’t guarantee there won’t be some tears from the boys—” She stopped when Luny squeezed her a bit harder. “—and probably from me while you’re gone but we’re a military family. We’ll email and video chat. Make plans for your R&R. Establish a rhythm and a routine. I’ll learn how to clean snow off a car. It’ll be a new adventure for us.”

Debbie turned in Luny’s arms and wrapped hers around him. “Now, I can think of better ways to be spending a quiet evening with my husband than stressing over a cross-country move that will be followed by my husband deploying.”

“Oh really? And what do those plans entail?” Luny started dancing her around the kitchen to some music in his soul.

“We need to start packing,” she said, trying to keep a straight face.

“I’ve got a better idea, Mrs. Luna. Let’s take this dance somewhere more private and lose some clothing.” He leaned down and kissed her. He possessed her mouth and wiped out her thought process, running his tongue along hers, melting any worries from her mind. When he pulled back, he smiled. “You head to the bedroom. I’ll check the house and join you in a few.”

Debbie stood there blinking, trying to restart her brain. When she had some function back, she slapped Luny’s ass and sashayed out of the room saying over her shoulder, “Don’t take too long. I might start without you.”

Luny’s laughter followed her as she climbed the stairs to their room. They were looking at another deployment, but she knew in her heart that he’d be back as soon as he could.
