I sighed. That was so very tempting, but I knew that once they started crawling, they’d be more of a distraction than anything, and I wouldn’t be able to watch them and do my job.

“I appreciate that, but I think it’s better that I get used to being apart from them. Briggs has to as well, and it’s only fair that I do the same.”

Dr. King shook his head. “I’m not sure I agree with that, and I did make the same offer to Cecil. He decided to stay home permanently though.” Dr. King offered another smile. “And just a heads-up. Alpha Osmund was letting me know that the council has hired an additional doctor to help with the care of omegas. He will be joining us sometime in the spring after he gets everything organized for his move.”

“Since it was Alpha Osmund that informed you, does that mean the new doctor is a fox shifter?”

Dr. King’s smile widened. “It just happens that, yes, that is the case. I’m told his name is Dr. Camden Kennedy. He’s from New England somewhere, and although I’ve not had any interaction with him in the past, Costas has and has nothing but good things to say.”

Someone called out to Briggs, and he waved at whoever it was. “I’ll be right back, sweetheart. I want to go see what Aleric needs.”

I nodded and quickly became distracted by my mate walking off. When I looked back to Dr. King, he was smiling at me.

“Everything going well at home? Are the babies sleeping well?”

I sighed. “Yes. We seem to finally be in sync, and we’ve gotten them to a sleep schedule, which has been great.” I nodded. “Now, if we could only stay awake longer than five minutes once we give them their midnight bottle.”

It didn’t take long for Dr. King to catch on. “Ah. I see.” Dr. King glanced toward Briggs before he looked back at me. “Well, I’ll just say that it’ll happen when it happens. But there is nothing that says you as the omega can’t be the one to initiate. Have you tried? It doesn’t have to be so late at night.”

I groaned in frustration. “I’ve thought about it, but John is home during the day, and the thought of sneaking off to our room during the two-o’clock sleep time just doesn’t…” I sighed. “It’s hard to get into the mood when you subconsciously know your younger brother is just two doors down the hallway.” I wasn’t ashamed of having sex with my mate. Obviously, I had done the deed with him. We had twin daughters. But at times, John would look at us funny, and it seemed like it was always right after we’d been intimate. I’d never asked and wasn’t going to.

“I understand. Well, John is fourteen?” I nodded. “He’s past old enough to understand sex and that it is a very normal thing. Especially between mates. If it’s such an issue that it keeps you and your mate from connecting in that way, perhaps he should spend more time away from the house so the two of you can feel more comfortable doing what is natural.”

I sighed. I saw Briggs returning and nodded. “I’ll figure it out.”

Dr. King gently touched my shoulder. When I turned toward him, he had a look of nothing but understanding. “Don’t let anything ever come between you and your mate. The two of you need to remain intimate in order to keep your bond strong. It will suffer if the two of you go too long without that connection.”

I nodded, but when I looked toward Briggs, I pasted a smile on my face. It fell, though, when I saw he had such a serious look on his. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing. Just work news.” Briggs pulled me to his side and wrapped his arm around me tightly. “Are you ready to go to the festival?” I very briefly glanced at Dr. King before I focused on Briggs. I looked toward the festival, and although I’d gone last year and it had been fun, it was loud and a lot of people. Briggs’s face changed. “What am I missing?” he asked and then looked at Dr. King. “Is something wrong?”

“No,” I said. “Can we go home though?” I asked. “We’re already exhausted by the time we go to bed, and I just know that being out with everyone is going to add to that.”

“The excitement of new babies is certainly going to be a draw,” Dr. King added.

“I don’t mind going home. I thought you wanted to come to the festival.”

I nodded. “I did. But now that I’m here, I’m not so sure.”

Briggs chuckled. “Then home we go,” he said. Briggs squeezed me tighter into his side before he looked at Dr. King. “Thanks for keeping him company.”

“It was no problem at all,” Dr. King said. “I’ll see you soon.” Dr. King walked off, and once he disappeared into the crowd, I did a double take.

“Briggs?” I asked as my mate tried to turn us to walk back home.

“Hmm?”

“Who is that with Banner there?” I asked. My eyes widened when I saw the massive man place his hand on Banner’s back and rub up and down. It was a very intimate moment between them, and that was what surprised me so much.

“That’s Dante. He’s one of Atticus’s pack.”

I looked up at my mate. “He’s a hellhound, then?”

Briggs nodded. “Yeah. It looks like he’s getting friendly with Banner.”

I wanted to go interrupt, but Briggs pulled me away. I’d have to venture out to the bakery soon to ask what was up with all of that because Banner hadn’t ever said a single word about being interested in anyone. In fact, he’d always said the opposite.

It didn’t take long for us to get home, and once we had our coats, hats, and shoes off, I went upstairs to take care of Willow. Briggs was right behind me, and we made quick work of changing their diapers. They were amazing babies, and after we’d figured out the routine, they were so easy to care for. It had been more of a challenge for us, I think.
