“Very well. A date then. Where is it that we are going on this date?”

My eyes wide, and briefly before I thought of something quickly. “There are many places we can go in the local area. There is a favorite pizza place among the enforcers and many of the other council members, there is a Chinese food place that all of the pregnant omegas seem to really love. If neither of those are to your liking, we don’t have to stay in that area. We are warlocks, as you know, and we can go wherever your heart desires.”

That seem to catch Dominic’s attention. You’re telling me that if I really wanted to go to a hole in the wall place in Venice, you could take me there and it wouldn’t be an issue?”

“If that’s what you want, that’s what you get. I have not spent a whole Lotta time in Venice so I would have to suggest that you be the one to pop us in there, but yes, we absolutely could do that if you wished.” By my quick calculation, it was sometime in the middle of the night in Venice currently. But we absolutely could do that tomorrow if he wanted.

“All right. Consider it a date then. Please don’t make a fool of me in front of everyone,” Dominic said

“I wouldn’t. The fact that you are giving me a chance is more than I deserve, and I am grateful for it. I am going to do everything I can to show you that I can be a good One to you. You are willing to take a chance on me and I’m not going to throw that away.” I told him. At least, that’s what I thought he wasdoing. I really hoped I hadn’t misread the situation. “I haven’t gotten it wrong, have I?”

Dominic offered a smile. “No. I’m not ready to say that I’ve completely forgiven you. But I am willing to see if things are possible between us. I owe it not only to myself but you as well.”

I shook my head. “You don’t owe me anything. It means a lot to me that you’re even here, willing to talk to me.” He had given me a chance, and there was no way I was going to throw what he was offering away. I would take things one day, one step at a time.

“Tomorrow then? Or whenever you’re ready to go on our date?” Dominic asked.

“Yes. We can see if tomorrow works. I don’t foresee it being an issue,” I told him. “I’ll just need to let the council know where I’m going. For the most part, they don’t really track us too closely once we meet our mate or One. I was given a few days off once I contacted them to let them know about who you are to me. I know I’ll get at least two weeks, but most likely a month off to spend with you. No pressure, that’s just how the council does things.” I didn’t know how it was going to work with us specifically since Dominic wasn’t exactly ready to jump into a relationship with me. That was completely on me, and I took responsibility for my actions.

Dominic stood, and although I understood why, it saddened me that he was ready to leave. I quickly joined him and as we walked the short distance to the door, I placed my hands behind my back when the desire to touch his became too much.

“Even if tomorrow ends up not working, perhaps we can still get together?” I asked, hopeful.

Dominic turned and smiled at me. “Sure. I’m always up for a good cup of coffee,” he told me.

Coffee I could do. Dominic opened the door, and then left, leaving me to watch as he walked down the hallway three doorsand then entered his own suite. It hadn’t gone unnoticed that Master Arthur had placed me as close to Dominic as possible. But I was beginning to think that being so close to my One without actually being with him was going to be painful in other ways. I absently rubbed at the ache in the center of my chest once Dominic disappeared from sight. Tomorrow. Tonight I needed to figure out how to romance my One.

Chapter 6

Dominic

Icouldn’t believe it. I was back in Venice with Frederick. I saw the place. I had once called home through new eyes though.

“Do you still have things at your place?” Frederick asked me.

“No. What I didn’t bring with me to Amherst I either left behind or got rid of. I didn’t have a whole lot. Mostly just clothing, and some older things from my parents. I brought those with me, but I left all of the furniture. I wasn’t overly attached to it, and really I didn’t have a whole lot of time to pack.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. I’m sure if there was something that you had to leave behind, the council might be able to do something with regards to helping you recover it.”

I looked over at Frederick and smiled. After that horrible morning two days ago, we were unable to get away yesterday, but we had spent several hours together, talking about various things. “I have everything that was any sort of sentimental value to me. Furniture can be replaced, and it’s not as if my furniture here exactly goes with the décor of a manor in Amherst, Massachusetts.”

Frederick chuckled. “No, I suppose not.” He looked up and out over the canal that we were standing over on a bridge. “I can see why you would miss this place.”

I leaned over on the railing and watched as the various gondolas floated down the canal. Every so often one would disappear under the bridge. We were standing on, the people on them seeming to have a great time.

“It’s home. But like anyone else as we are, home often changes. Am actually quite surprised that, I was able to spend such a long amount of time here in one place.” My birth coven hand done an excellent job at creating multiple different businesses that were run completely by the coven family. This allowed us to remain in the area as long as we had.

“So what are your plans for me this evening?” Frederick asked.

When I glanced over at him, there was a playful smile on his face. I was thankful that I had decided that instead of completely shutting him out and possibly causing both of lifetime of so many regrets, I had instead chosen to see where things may go between us.

“Well, first I want you to experience of my favorite places to eat. It’s this tiny place that if you didn’t know what it was, you would walk right past it and think it was someone’s home.”

“Sounds perfect. Did you wish to hang out here in Venice after, we have our meal?”

I shrugged. “Possibly. I was thinking that maybe you could take me back to your place and we could explore where you call home.” I knew I had surprised Frederick, when both of his eyebrows raised significantly. Was I ready to completely commit to him? I was getting there.

I knew that he was remorseful for what he had said, had been a very stressful situation for him. Did that change the fact that those thoughts had even entered his mind? No, but everyonemade mistakes, and I was no different. I knew that no matter how many missteps either of us made throughout our lifetimes, we were meant to be together. There was some reason that we were chosen for one another, and I wanted to explore that.
