I chuckled—I’d spoken too soon apparently.“That depends. Did you think it was a contraction?”I asked back through our bond.“If so, then yes. It was exactly what you thought it was.”Another contraction hit just then, and I was forced to take another deep breath and breathe through it.

I was trying to walk over to the counter so I could grab it for support when I felt a sudden gush of fluid between my legs. I sighed. Well, there was absolutely no denying that I was in labor.

Frederick suddenly appeared beside me, and I gave my One an imploring look. “I think it’s time to call the doctor,” I told him. I pointed down to the floor below me and when Frederick glanced down, he looked back at me with worried eyes.

“Did your waters break??

“Yep.”

“Why didn’t you reach out earlier?”

I glared at Frederick. “Probably because the contractions only just started moments ago. I was trying to shuffle my way to the counter so I could hold myself up. My waters broke seconds before you appeared. Would you please call Dr. King? And then help me to bed?”

Frederick nodded and then instantly seemed to spring into action. I was whisked away and up off of my feet. Moments later I was carefully placed on our bed. Frederick was sitting beside me, holding my hand, while he pulled out his phone. He touched the screen a few times, and then held it up to his ear.

“Yes Dr. King. Apparently our son will be arriving very soon.” Frederick went quiet for a moment and then responded to whatever it was that the doctor was saying on the other end of the conversation. “Yes, we are in the bedroom.” Frederick looked at me and nodded. “He’s havingsomecontractions?”

I gave him a look, but I’m not sure he completely understood. Some? I grabbed my stomach and took a deep breath while another contraction washed through me This one was the strongest yet and it felt as if it was ripping my stomach apart. I couldn’t keep in the groan of pain.

“Yes. He is certainly having contractions and they appear to be fairly strong and close together.”

I nodded in agreement. The contraction, although strong, was thankfully not long in length. I sighed in relief when it finally released me.

“Is he coming? Please tell me he’s going to be here soon.” I said.

Frederick pulled the phone away from his ear and tossed it toward the bedside table. He grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze before he took his other and touched the side of my face.

“Hello!”

I smiled at Frederick. “And there he is,” Frederick said as he smiled back at me. I was so happy and relieved to know that Dr. King was here. Then the thought hit me. In what was probably going to be minutes, our son would be here with us.

Dr. King entered the bedroom and despite the fact that I was mated to Frederick, I was incredibly happy to see another man in our bedroom.

“Oh. I know that look,” Dr. King said.

I wanted to respond to him, but I could only grimace as another contraction hit me. Apparently, my smooth sailing pregnancy was going to completely end when it came time for labor. I wasn’t going to complain though, because I truly had had a wonderful pregnancy up until this point. If my delivery was going to be painful, I had no room to complain.

“Frederick, if you would move to the other side, I will make Dominic comfortable, and then we can get your baby delivered,” Dr. King said. I watched as Frederick did exactly as told. He first leaned down and gave me a kiss before he got up and moved to the other side of the bed. Frederick crawled up beside me, and settled in the middle with his legs crossed in front of him.

“That will work.” Dr. King looked at me and offered a smile. “Are you ready to meet your son?”

“Yes. Is it going to be terribly painful?” I asked. Drew and I had talked about everything, and one thing he had mentioned was that Dr. King could take away the pain, and I would feel nothing. That sounded like absolute heaven at the moment.

“In just a moment you will no longer feel a thing. Then the two of you can celebrate your new baby being born one day after than his cousin.” Dr. King told us.

I looked at Frederick confused.

“I delivered Caspian and Dimitri’s son yesterday. Had you not heard?”

“No. We’ve been quite preoccupied with other things,” Frederick said.

“Yes indeed. And in about ten minutes, the two of you will be even more preoccupied.” Dr. King smiled at me as he held up his hand. A light green light started emanating from it, and when he slowly moved it down my body from my stomach to mid-thigh, the pain that I was experiencing suddenly dissipated. In its placewas most certainly that wonderful floating feeling that Drew had raved about.

“Ahh. So that’s what he meant,” I said I felt my body relax for the first time in a little while.

Dr. King chuckled. “All of the omegas and carriers talk about that floating feeling,“ Dr. King said. “And now it’s time to deliver your son.”

I reached for Frederick, and when he grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze, I felt peace. I also felt movement and then a bit of pressure but no real pain. Frederick brought my hand to his mouth and kissed my knuckles. “You are doing amazing, my love.”
