“That’s him? That’s our little Enrico?” I asked.

“If you are naming your baby Enrico, then yes, that is your baby,” Dr. King told us. “His heartbeat is incredibly strong, and his organs are all developed to where they should be for his gestational age. I will let the two of you stare at him for a few minutes while I quickly get detailed measurements to make sure he’s exactly where he needs to be for his gestational age. At first glance, he looks as if everything is exactly as it should be.”

I couldn’t help it, my eyes had already filled with tears, and now they were running down my cheeks. That was our baby. That was my little Enrico. He looked so small. His tiny little fingers were perfect. As was his little nose.

I looked over at Frederick and fell even more in love with him as he stared at the image that was floating in the air. He was completely mesmerized by what he was seeing. Not that I blamed him. It was truly fascinating to see our baby, well an image of our baby floating in the air.

Frederick finally realized that I was no longer looking at her son, but him, and he leaned in to give me a gentle kiss. When his lips pulled away, he moved and whispered next to my ear. “You are by far the most amazing man I have ever known. I will never be able to convey to you just how much you mean to me. But I am so very happy that you are the one I am going to spend the rest of my life with. And that it is you who will be the other father of my children.”

If I hadn’t already been in love with Frederick, I would have fallen then in there in that moment. “I love you too,” I told him. He hadn’t said those exact words in that moment, but he hadn’t needed to. They were there among the ones he did speak.

Frederick smiled at me and then reached up to wipe away the tears that had started to fall from my eyes. When a tissue suddenly appeared in front of me, I took it without hesitation.

“It is very common for pregnancy to cause emotions to overflow,” Dr. King told me with a grin. “I see nothing amiss with your son. His development is exactly where it should be with both his organs as well as his bone development. Ten fingers, ten toes. Two ears, hands, arms, legs, and feet. I do not see anything that is catching my eye that we should be concerned about.”

“That’s all a good thing, though,” Frederick said.

Dr. King looked directly at us. “Yes.” He turned to his left, and after reaching for something, he turned back holding out a strip of paper. It only took a moment to realized it was several images of our baby, and I was incredibly thankful to have them.

The image of our son disappeared from the air the same time the lights in the room brightened and the head of the table rose slightly.

“We’ve already had the sex talk, so we don’t need to go over that again. I want to see you in a month for a quick check up unless you experience some sort of complication before then.”

“I can certainly do that,” I told him. I glanced at Frederick who I found was staring at the strip of images. When I looked back to Dr. King, he was smiling at Frederick. “We can do that,” I told him.

“Good.” Dr. King looked at us expectantly. “Any questions for me?”

“No.” I gently nudged Frederick’s shoulder, which finally grabbed his attention. He looked up at me in question, but I could only smile at him. “Do you have questions for the doctor?”

“Oh! No. The only one I really had, he already answered.”

I looked back to Dr. King who nodded before he stood up. “Very well then. Let’s get you scheduled for a month from now, and then I will let two of you get back to the rest of your day.”

With Frederick’s help, I slid down off of the exam table, and we follow Dr. King from the room. We made our appointment with Todd, with some assistance from Dr. King, and then we were on our way. Once outside, I pulled Frederick to me and gave him a lingering kiss. I was going to miss him for the next few hours, but he would be home soon enough.

“I’ll be waiting for you at home,” I told him after we pulled apart.

“What a coincidence,” Frederick said. “It just so happens that I have the rest of the day off so that means I get to go home with you. Can you think of something you would like to do once we get there?”

Immediately my body heated, and Frederick chuckled because he could feel the surge of desire as it rushed through my body through our bond. I knew that he would take care of me, and after he wrapped his arms around me and transported us to our bedroom, he did exactly that.

Chapter 19

Frederick

“What’s the status?” I asked Warwick. We were scouring the reports that the hellhounds had been providing from their continued patrols. They had moved from Treasure Ridge down to Honey Creek and had settled on Timber Valley. There had been what we had thought was exciting of Malorie, but we were still waiting for confirmation. Her parents were obviously quite devastated about the information. The council provided them with regards to Marco.

“I’m not sure what is what. Someone said they saw a woman matching her description at the Timber Valley grocery store. Another person said they saw someone that looked like her picture at several of the fast-food places,” Warwick said. “But none of that makes any sense because if she is with Marco, why is she at various food places? Why would she need to go to the grocery store? Why would she need to go anywhere? He’s a warlock, and has powers just like you and I do. He doesn’t need for her to go shopping for them.”

I thought about it for a moment and couldn’t come up with anything either. “Hear me out. What if she’s not with him?”

“What do you mean? Would she introduce him to her parents as her mate, and then go missing if she wasn’t going to be with him?”

True, that was a very valid question. But from what I understood about Marco Gallo, he didn’t do things like you would expect.

“I don’t think I have an answer for you. Dominic will tell you that of the few times that he has actually seen Marco in person, he did not get a good feeling from the man. He will also tell you that the rumors around his coven where that no one messed with Marco or Riccardo, ever. If you did, you would be lucky if you saw the next morning. I don’t know what that means for Malorie. Is possible that she is visiting all the restaurants and the store because she’s looking for him as well. What if he left her behind?”

That would be just our luck. The council was finally moving in on him, and I could absolutely see Marco, as abandoning his One I’m taking off elsewhere.
