After navigating through the city, still not a word said between Ace and I, I merge onto the highway then look over at Ace. “You better hang on.”

A deep chuckle rumbles up through his throat, and I press harder on the gas. Rolling a good 120mph down the highway, weaving in and out of traffic until we get to the open road with very little in front of us.

My hands grip the steering wheel with anticipation, needing to get past a spot where cops always sit.

“You're just itching for more aren't you.” He jokes.

I look over and smile. “Always.” Past the spot, I drop my hand to my gear shifter, pushing in the clutch, shifting gears and beauty gives me everything she has, speedometer climbing and not backing down.

The speedometer continues to climb, finally at a place my heart can beat normally, I start spilling words from my mouth. “We can't get married, Ace.”

“Why is that?”

“We don't know each other, you are taking over the brotherhood, it's not a life Iwanted.”

“Whether you like it or not Emma, you will always be in this life.”

My heart instantly feels heavy. In a way he's right but I don't want to believe it, I don't want this life. I look up in the rearview mirror noticing red and blue lights.

“Fuck, we've got company.”

Chapter four

EMMA

Crazy how a bad day can go from just being bad, to being a really fucking shitty day. From the start of my morning, my father and Ryan's crazy fucking idea for Ace and I to marry. I mean, he's not bad eye candy, that's for sure, but this can't happen.

My duties as a Mafia Queen are to be taken seriously. I must show my respect and do as Ace says, there can be no sass, or he will be required to put me in my place, as my father says. I also must produce heirs for Ace, to pass down our Empire's.

Trying to just burn off steam by taking my car for a drive, Ace and I have company trailing behind us.

Except, they aren't cops with their blue and red lights, those are the Heathens.

“We have company, Ace.”

Ace looks behind us, then looks to me. “Those aren't cops.”

“I know, they're Heathens.”

“How do you know about them?”

I snort a laugh. “How doyouknow about them?”

“Baby Girl, just because I haven't been here doesn't mean I don't know what is happening in my city.”

I bark a laugh; his city, “I think you mean our city.”

Raising a brow I look over at him, with a playful smile.

“Touché.” He jokes. “So what are you going to do about ourfriends back there?”

“What do you want me to do with them? Would you like to have a little fun? Just fucking run away and hide? You tell me?” I ask him. I laugh, knowing I personally like to have a little fun with them. It's really playing with the Devil though, if they catch me, they will steal my car and ship it overseas for big money.

That's what the Heathens do, a Cartel gang in this city that steals expensive, fast cars and ships them for double the money overseas and recently sneaking into our casinos, cheating at our tables.

When I finally pull my eyes away from the road that is going by in a blur, I look over at Ace, his lips turning into a dark and twisted grin. “I don't know, how dangerous are you feeling?”

“Let me make a quick call, and then I'll answer that for you.” I'm not worried about the Heathens behind me, I have nothing but open roads in front of me, and I'm cruising at a good 130mph. I reach down and hit a button on my small flat screen, it rings and rings until Zee’s voice sounds throughout my car. “Hey Em, what's up?”
