“I do not understand how living with my family is a punishment,” Alaric stated.

“I do,” Chander muttered.

“Come along, Owliver, we have things to do,” Worth said. “We’ll leave Sorcery D’Vaire to get started on a new list of ideas to aid our Zarasha. I’m sure if they try again, they’ll find the solution.”

“No pressure or anything,” Somerly called after Worth as he led Oliver out of the beautiful space.

“Consider it motivation,” Worth replied without glancing back. Once they were out in the hall, he tugged Oliver close. “I’m sorry they haven’t found a way yet.”

“I’m not surprised, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.”

“My feelings are the same. What will we tell Orion?”

“That it’s a very hard problem and they’re doing their best,” Oliver replied. “It’s the truth.”

Worth brushed his lips across Oliver’s welcoming mouth. “At least he’ll be living here soon and can annoy the entire family with questions about why it’s taking them so long.”

“It’s the best silver lining we can hope for—him pestering them with incessant questions instead of just us,” Oliver said with a chuckle. “Let’s go help with his suite so Sunday is the last night I have to leave you.”

Overwhelmed by how wonderful it’d be to have Oliver in their bed every night, Worth grinned as his dragon roared with triumph in his head. “Lead the way, Owlie.”

“We should probably find Asteria before we do anything else.”

“Good point, I believe this is the longest she hasn’t been in the room with you since your first visit.”

“Is she going to sit on my shoulder when I’m working?” Oliver asked as they left the office building and headed for the house.

“I’m rarely found at my desk without her perched up there.”

“That’s going to take some getting used to.”

“Hopefully, I’m enough of a bonus to overlook whatever difficulties our Asteria poses for you.”

Oliver halted in the backyard and rested his hands on Worth’s hips. “There isn’t a hardship I wouldn’t endure to be with you, Worthington.”

“If you keep saying such romantic things to me, I’m going to demand we find the nearest bed immediately.”

As soon as Oliver’s arms went around Worth’s waist, the owl shifter sealed their lips together. His tongue darted through a heartbeat later, and Worth relaxed in his embrace. The passion that heated up their nights together warmed him, but he didn’t allow himself to get lost in desire. They’d have plenty of timelater to explore each other. Worth loved those hours of kissing, sucking, and friction.

Although they had yet to achieve his ultimate fantasy of having Oliver buried deep inside him, he promised himself he’d insist on it soon. In the meantime, Worth enjoyed the sweetness of Oliver’s caress. Worth wasn’t anywhere near ready to call it quits, but Oliver lifted his head, and their eyes met. Oliver’s pretty yellow gaze was warm with desire and affection.

It was far removed from Oliver’s too-serious expressions at the start of their relationship. Oliver had gone from a man trying desperately to soak in some of the caring-rich environment of D’Vaire to someone poised to be enriched with it constantly. Worth was incredibly proud that he had his home to offer to Oliver. His mate deserved the very best, and that was D’Vaire.

“I adore you,” Oliver said, melting Worth’s heart.

“You’re the perfect owl for me.”

Oliver grinned. “Hmm, that hardly sounds specific enough.”

“Come now, Owlie, can you imagine me with someone who’s not an owl? Don’t be absurd.”

“An impossible idea really.”

“Just as ludicrous as you without a pink dragon.”

“Excellent point.”

“Now, stop dawdling, Owlie, we need to find Asteria before she misses you so sorely she is never the same again. Much the way I feel when you flitter off to New York and I must sleep alone.”
