“You could ask though,” Imogene replied. “Maybe you can work something out with him.”
Zarasha looked skeptical, and so did Orion, but the fairy nodded. “I guess I could ask him,” Zarasha said.
“You never know until you try,” Oliver remarked. “Speaking of things to try, Imogene, have you made any plans yet to discover what your passion is or what it is you want to do?”
“I’m not sure where to start,” Imogene said. A line appeared between her dark brows. “Suddenly, there are so many possibilities that I don’t know how to focus on a single thing.”
“Talk to Lex,” Worth suggested. “He pursued higher education until finally listening to that part of him eager to aid others. Perhaps he can help you narrow things down to find a starting point. Rutledge is also a champion list maker, and you’dbe amazed at how helpful it can be to have everything written on a tablet or a sheet of paper.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to them,” Imogene replied, her face brightening again. “It’s so awesomesauce that everyone here is super nice. I don’t have to worry that I’ll make anyone mad by asking for help.”
“That’s because D’Vaire is the best,” Zarasha said.
“That’s true,” Orion added.
“And we have the prettiest beasts,” Xakiok remarked. “Did you enjoy flying with everyone, Imogene?”
“Are you kidding? I was so excited I almost forgot how to shift,” Imogene replied. “I’m not sure how I’m going to handle next weekend. The Emperors? Like, what? Me meeting the most important dragons? My life is nuts now.”
“You embraced your chance to change your life,” Oliver said. “It’s not easy, but making a leap of that kind makes all the difference. I was terrified when I first started my business. Even more scared expanding it quickly so I could feed my family. Then, I met my mate. It’s so frightening. I didn’t want to make any mistakes or ruin the relationship Fate had picked for me.”
“There was never a chance of that, Owliver,” Worth assured him. “From the moment our eyes met, I was ready to be yours. You’re everything to me and my dragon. I love you.”
“They’re going to start kissing now,” Orion predicted.
Oliver cupped Worth’s cheek, and Worth met him halfway for a deep kiss that thrilled both man and beast. No matter how many times they touched, it remained sacred and beautiful to Worth. He was glad they had an eternity. He’d need it to fully embrace the gift of Oliver in his life.
For years, Worth had begged Fate to match him. He’d convinced himself he was ready for the future and a matebond. It turned out he had known nothing about what to expect. Oliver had awakened something in his soul. The only other thing asprofound for Worth was the day he’d become a dragon and the two halves of himself were united.
Fate had brought Worth a man who intrigued him intellectually, someone who’d offered his heart his fully, and a man who filled him with an unparalleled desire. Oliver was his other half. His perfect complement.
Worth cherished every moment they spent together. With a soft kiss to Oliver’s tempting mouth, Worth and his dragon silently promised to love him forever.
