“What the fuck, Blondie? Is that a yes…? Is it a no?What?”
“I love you.”
“I fucking mean it. You need to answer the question.” Mitchell got a soft buss to the corner of his mouth, which pissed him off. “Right now, Pierson.”
“Technically, you didn’t ask me a question.”
“You are horrible. There’s not going to be any snuggles for you. At all.”
“Like how is that a threat? You’re way too big of a snuggleslut to ever hold back cuddles. And besides…you already know my answer.”
“Where? When?”
“DC. And I don’t know. How long does it take to set one up?”
“We’re going to find out.”
“I want simple. I want you and me. No one else but the officiant. And I want rings like shifters wear. The mating marks that the D’Vaires made popular…I want that too.”
Mitchell shoved his chair from the table and pulled Pierson close. “Me too. All of it. As soon as possible.”
“I love you. Thank you for trusting me with your heart for eternity.”
“Don’t make me cry, Blondie.”
With a laugh, Pierson pulled away after a quick kiss. “I’m going to finish my dinner now.”
“Wow, the romance died so fast.”
“Can we think about the MJK thing for a little bit?”
“I’m getting you. The rest of it can wait forever if need be,” Mitchell promised.
Chapter 40
Sleep had been lost and many debates had waged over the last several days as Mitchell and Pierson weighed the idea of being Master Juris Knights. In the waking hours, they’d managed to pick out beautiful bands to use to celebrate their promises to each other, and the venue was secured for the next morning. There was only one hiccup which had Pierson worried, but Mitchell was determined to fix it as soon as their meeting was finished.
With a squeeze to Pierson’s hand, Mitchell waited while the Reverent Knights settled into seats across the table from them. “Thanks for giving us some time this afternoon, RKs. We believe we’re nearly ready to make a decision about the MJK positions you offered us on Monday.”
“Are there questions we can answer to help you across the finish line?” Conley asked.
“We were curious about the arbitration idea Pierce suggested to you when he took on the liaison position. Is that something you think we could implement in the future?”
“I believe it’d be a valuable tool to improve our system. We’ve already taken the idea to the Emperors’ advisory panel, and they believe that to prevent the Council leaders from crying foul over having some decisions out of the hands of the appointed judges, we’ll need to allow conditional appeals. It’ll require a client to provide additional evidence or cause to overturn the ruling of the MJKs,” Drystan replied. “It has to be an amendment to the Order of the Fallen Knights rules, which will require a Council vote, but we’ll have the backing of the advisory panel. That’ll go a long way to getting it passed.”
“Is that something we could file with the Council once the position of MJK is filled?” Pierson asked.
“We are not offering the position of MJK to anyone besides the two of you, and it can be filed immediately. The restructure of the leadership will require an amendment anyway. We’ll simply include both things,” Drystan responded. “Should you decide you don’t want to accept, there will be no MJK in the foreseeable future. We had to consider that you might turn it down, so we’re going to have a bar for new recruits who qualify for JK. Should they reach a certain threshold, we’ll add them to a list of possible candidates. But they’ll need some experience under their belts before we offer it again.”
“You won’t need to offer it to anyone else,” Mitchell remarked. “Pierce and I would be honored to represent the Juris Knights as MJKs.”
“Wonderful, congratulations,” Conley enthused. “When do you want to get started?”
“We see no reason to delay our start, so if you’re ready to let us take the titles, we’ll do everything we can to meet your expectations,” Pierson said.
“What about announcing your matebond? I don’t believe it’s possible to explain why we’ve selected two notorious enemies to share an office,” Drystan mused.
“Our matebond ceremony is tomorrow,” Mitchell confessed. “So, on Monday morning everyone will know anyway.”
