“Do you like your dragon trainer? I know he’s essentially an apprentice. Did you want the advice of more than one trainer to help you?”

“I believe Jeremiah is doing a terrific job, and I cannot imagine there is anyone who can help me more than he has already. Ultimately it is up to me to get through it.”

“You already have the confidence of an emperor, Ellery.”

“Not always. You have simply caught me on a good day.”

Chrysander chuckled. “All right, let’s go get this torture over with. If we’re lucky we’ll be back home in an hour.”

“It is wishful thinking, but I will take it.”

Pleased with the man at his side, Chrysander allowed Damian to lead them down to the waiting limousine. There was never enough time in the day to spend with Ellery, and so Chrysander cherished the stolen moments they managed together. The more he learned about his personality, the more he liked.

Determined to change their schedules after their ceremony, Chrysander was planning on building his life just as he was taught, with Ellery at the center. Work—even for an emperor—had to take second place to his relationship. He was already planning a two-week vacation and when the pair returned to their jobs, their calendars would be lightened. Their offices would be combined as Chrysander wanted as much of his day with Ellery as possible.

Chrysander was counting on Ellery being in the same mindset, and while there would be adjustments for all the people in their lives, it was something he not only knew he must do—he craved it. The next few weeks were bound to ricochet throughout his future, and he had to find the serenity Ellery so often displayed to survive it intact.
