Chrysander had faced many negotiations in his lifetime, and this one was going nowhere. He wanted to help Niko but from this distance, he had no way of speaking to him. “Mother, I’m not trying to do anything besides offer my assistance. I hope you’ll pass a message along to Niko. He’s welcome to call me at any time, even if it’s just to say hello.”

“I’m not sure how your father would feel about that,” Andriana hedged.

“Chrys has a meeting to get to. Is there anything else you want to complain about? He apologized for not telling you about Ellery, which I don’t think he needed to do in the first place. You obviously aren’t going to come and see his ceremony. There’s no way you’re going to give Niko an out. So what are you really calling for?”

“I don’t know why you’re always so hurtful, Damianos. I didn’t call to speak to you. I wanted to talk to Chrysander.”

“Because he’s nicer than me and will let you fill his ear with complaints. He’ll offer help even though he knows you won’t take it. His ability to listen and want to care for others is why he’s such a good emperor—not that you’ve ever acknowledged his title. You taught us not to deny Fate, and yet you do it every day. You have a son who has moved his people here, and you still sit in Greece. You’ve got a mate you refer to as only our father’s and refuse to bind blood with. Do I need to go on?”

“I’m sorry I’m not perfect,” she snapped. “Good luck on your mating, Chryssie.”

Chrysander didn’t get to reply, as she hung up the phone. Damian lifted a brow at him. “Don’t give me shit about how I talked to them.”

“The only thing I’m going to say is that it’s useless for you to get so worked up. Nothing’s going to change there.”

“I can’t believe your parents have their mate locked up in a guest house,” Costas commented from across the room.

“Neither can I,” Damian groused.

“I’m not trying to meddle, but what if you asked one of the Sentinel Brotherhood to slip your card under the door? It might be the only way you could get your contact information to him,” Costas suggested.

“Now I remember why we keep you around,” Chrysander teased. “I’ll call Alaric later tonight. They regularly have sentinels over there scouting to see what the Consilium is up to. I can’t imagine it would be difficult to manage that.”

“Great, now let’s get our work finished so we can head home. I want to see how Zane’s doing with Tiri,” Damian said.

“Do we have any other tribes requesting our presence?” Costas joked. “I wouldn’t mind meeting my other half.”

“Not right now, but you can bet I’m not going to miss any invitations in the future,” Chrysander told him. They were all pleased Zane met his mate, and Chrysander was elated that Ellery elected to befriend Tiri. He grabbed his suit jacket and got ready to head toward his meeting. There was only a single hour to endure until he would be back at Ellery’s side, however distant that was due to their circumstances. Please let the next few weeks go by fast, he pleaded with Fate. He wanted Ellery in his heart and in his bed.
