“What do you say, Aleksander? Are you going to let an elf make history by becoming a dragon on your land?” Damian asked.
“I don’t know, I’ve been told I’m cursed. Maybe it’d be bad luck,” Aleksander teased.
“This is going to be so awesome,” Grand Warlock Familiar Renny D’Vaire shouted. “We’ll have a huge party afterward. We can decorate it in the color of Ellery’s dragon.”
“With amassivedragon cake,” Dra’Kaedan exclaimed. “And so much frosting.”
Vampyr Lord Grigori Volkov-D’Vaire strode over and handed Ellery a plate full of food. “I sprinkled on the protein powder I created. Let me know if you taste anything strange or if it changes the texture of your meal.”
“Thank you very much,” Ellery responded as he took the plate from him. “I appreciate you doing this for me.”
“I was happy to help, and I’m glad I didn’t let you or Vadimas down,” Grigori replied, then sat next to his mate, High Arcanist Delaney.
Ellery glanced down at his meal and found there was bread as well as grilled fruit. His brows drew together, and he wondered what to do.
“It’s okay,” Talfryn said. “The Cwylld and Acwellan were primitive tribes too, but all of us now eat grilled stuff as well as bread. You do not have to try it if you don’t want to. We just wanted you to have the chance because it’s delicious.”
Since they were now considered part of the same traditional cuisine the other elves at D’Vaire ate, Ellery decided he’d go for it. When he bit into the thick slice of bread, he was glad he did.
“Yummy, right?” Talfryn asked.
Too busy eating to bother with words, Ellery nodded enthusiastically. When he took a bite of grilled pineapple, he remembered he was supposed to be searching for the taste of Grigori’s protein powder. By the time his plate was clear, Ellery was grateful he could expand his diet, and he assured the Vampyr Lord he’d noticed no difference with the addition of the supplement he would require when he became a dragon. He’d just met the D’Vaire family, and already they were altering his life for the better. Ellery was ecstatic at the idea of trying to shift in a place that brought him nothing but peace and joy.
