Ellery grinned. “Exactly.”
“I want the same things as you. That’s what you should focus on when you get irritated with me. We want the same future. I just don’t have your courage.”
“I do not believe that to be true.”
“Are you seriously going to argue with an emperor?”
“Since I happen to be one as well, yes.”
Chrysander brought them to a stop again along the waves, so he could trace his fingers over the gold on Ellery’s face, which caused goose bumps to travel down his arms. “It looks good on you. All this gold.”
Reaching up to thread his fingers into Chrysander’s hair, he tilted his face upward and his dragon didn’t disappoint; he took Ellery’s mouth in a deep kiss. Ellery’s only regret as he stood in the sun with the wet sand under his toes was that there wasn’t a bed anywhere close by.
