Chapter 34
Ellery hummed a tune as he picked out a dark tunic with a smattering of gold beads on it. He’d just been kicked out of the shower by Chrysander, who claimed he would never get clean if Ellery didn’t leave. Apparently Chrysander found it difficult to get soaped up with Ellery touching him. With a careless shrug and a wide smile, Ellery left the closet, unperturbed by Chrysander’s gruff order to get out.
It wasn’t his fault that he was insatiable. He was going to lay the blame for that right at Chrysander’s feet because one thing was for sure—his dragon was phenomenal in bed. Deciding he would go into the sitting room to catch up on the overnight news while he waited for Chrysander so they could grab breakfast, Ellery opened the door to his bedroom and his pretty mood popped.
“What the hell are you doing in my bedroom suite?” Ellery asked Wesley, surprised not only to see their office manager on a Sunday, but that he’d uttered the first curse word of his life.
“I realized I forgot to bring over the last of the Council bills that the Arch Lich will have on the schedule while you and Chrys are vacationing.”
“I fail to see why you would need to bring those to our bedroom.”
“Ellery, this is a sitting room.”
“A private one attached to our bedroom. There are about a million rooms in this house. Do not come into our suite uninvited.”
“Chrys has always maintained an open-door policy.”
“This is not only Chrysander’s space. It is mine too, and I want it private,” Ellery stated, quite proud that he stood up to Wesley and that he’d managed to get the words out without gritting his teeth.
“That’s fine. If you want to overreact, I’ll leave.”
“Wesley, I am not going to tolerate being spoken to that way. Whether you like it or not, I am Emperor too.”
“Of course, Ellery,” Wesley retorted and sauntered out.
“I never gave you leave to drop my title,” Ellery muttered to the closed door.
“Uh, Ell? Who’re you talking to out here?” Chrysander asked as he strolled out to the sitting room. His still-damp hair was combed away from his handsome face, and he was dressed casually in denim. It was the first time Ellery got the chance to see him in jeans, and that was a damn shame. “Hey, get that look off your face. We need to eat before you jump me again.”
Ellery grinned. He’d woken Chrysander up at about five because it was impossible to keep his hands to himself. His dragon was just a little grumpy at losing the rare chance to sleep in.
“I mean it, Ell. Eyes up here.”
Realizing that he was ogling Chrysander’s crotch like a piece of tasty meat, he forced his gaze upward into a pair of annoyed but still-friendly black eyes.
“I swear I was not going to do anything. I am hungry too.”
“For what, is the question,” Chrysander said as he closed the space between them and kissed his forehead. “Did I tell you how beautiful the jade in your eyes looks with the gold ring?”
“Did I mention how much it hurt to get that particular ring of gold?”
“Trust me, I know,” Chrysander responded as he took Ellery’s hand. “So were you out here talking to yourself?”
“No, Wesley was here.”
“Why? It’s Sunday, and we’re on vacation for the next two weeks.”
“He brought over the last of the Council bills Chander will be handling while we are enjoying our time off. I told him I do not want him coming into our suite uninvited anymore.”
“I should’ve thought of that. Everyone’s always treated the sitting room like a revolving door, but that’s not going to work any longer. We deserve our privacy, and I don’t trust you not to start funny business out here.”
“That couch does look comfortable.”
“Come on, you. Let’s go downstairs. I’ll be sure and reiterate to Wesley and everyone else that our space is off-limits now.”
“Thank you for last night and this morning,” Ellery offered casually as Chrysander led him out into the hall.
“Ell, you don’t have to thank me. I should be the one thanking you, but how about we both just focus on enjoying our time together without all the gratitude?”
