My head flopped back onto his chest and I panted from the heat and the pain, my breath raspy. There was no way other omegas did this every heat. My first heat had been nothing like this.

I lifted a hand and ran it over his ribs. He was chilly to the touch, but I wasn't sure if that was because of the cold or because I was so hot everything felt cold.

River shifted under me. His hard cock pressed into my core, and I couldn't help pressing my hips down to rub along hislength. It lessened the pain a tiny bit and more slick poured out of me.

"I can't . . . do that to you," he grated out, but his hips jerked upward slightly. He wanted it too.

"Please." The word was hard to squeeze out of my closing throat.

"No. Quinn. Just hold on. We're going to get you help." He wrapped his legs around mine to stop me from moving and the pain roared back.

I panted and twisted and screamed as my body tore itself apart and burned from the inside. He had what I needed right there and he still refused to give it to me. His arms were like steel braces, wrapped around me, holding me in place as I shuddered and burned.

Then it all went dark.

Chapter 22

Finding Quinn

Orion was driving like an old lady. I sat forward in my seat, peering through the windshield at the snow, trying to determine where River had gone off the road. It couldn't be far, he'd said they'd just passed Mountain Drive and we'd passed it a few minutes ago.

"They have to be close," Archer muttered from the backseat. "But the snow could have covered his truck."

"It's been six hours." I glanced at my watch for the millionth time. "Unless he knotted her, she's going to be in really bad condition right now. We have to move."

Then I saw it. River's truck was tilted to the side, nose deep in a snowbank, the passenger side wheels in the ditch. The driver's side door was open and everything was dark inside.

"There. They're right there."

"Did someone pick them up?" Orion asked aloud, pulling to a stop beside the vehicle. There was no movement inside and I couldn't tell if anyone was even in there. But if they were, the door would be closed, wouldn't it?

Leaving the others behind, I leaped out of the SUV and ran across the snow to the open door and breathed a sigh of relief. They were right there. Both topless, with Quinn passed out on top of River.

"Is she okay?" I laid a hand on her back, then jerked it back, shocked at the heat. "Why didn't you knot her?"

"She wouldn't want that," he muttered. "Take her."

I carefully lifted the unconscious woman off him and carried her back toward the SUV, tucking her close to my body. Archer already had the back door open and I slid inside with the tiny omega in my arms.

River stumbled after us, taking the front seat. "We have to get to the hospital. I couldn't get through to emergency services. My phone died."

"Go!" I snapped at Orion, who was twisted in his seat to check on Quinn. "She's not okay."

My fingers circled her throat, feeling for the pulse that was barely there. We were too late. She was already fading.

"Is she unconscious?" Archer leaned over to put a hand in front of her mouth. "She's hardly breathing, guys."

"She's not going to make it." I leaned back in my seat as Orion pulled out. "You've killed her, River. Why the hell wouldn't you knot her if it could have saved her."

"I'm not a rapist!"

We spent the next ten minutes racing to the hospital in silence. Part of me wanted to try to knot her now, right here in the car, but we were nearly to the hospital and they were better equipped to handle her.

"We're here." Orion pulled up in front of the ER doors.

It took me a few seconds to get the door open and then I was running into the ER, the omega clutched to my chest. "We need help!"

"What's going on?" A woman in blue scrubs appeared at my side.
