“Faith Rogers here, reporting from the Empire State Building. I am here speaking with Kurse...”

She turned to him and noticed that her hand was trembling. She squeezed the microphone hard to contain herself.

She also realized that she hadn’t explained the microphone to Kurse. He stared at it, lips curling upward like it was a tasty treat. Faith brought it back to her face and tapped it. Kurse’s eyes widened, taking in the hint.

His voice thundered into the microphone.

“I am Kurse, The Iron King of Kortanth.”

The microphone screeched, and rocks below shook. Faith cringed, attempting to conceal her anxiety.

When his eyes shifted around, Faith followed up with more questions.

“Tell us about yourself, Kurse.”

Kurse brought his fingers to his fangs and began caressing them as he spoke.

“I am a demon and have thrived in the pits of the Hell dimension of Kortanth for over a thousand human years. I am the chief warrior of iron—you know about us since The Veil fell.”

Faith nodded, noticing Camren’s shaking diminishing.

“I have ruled my corner of Kortanth with iron weapons,” Kurse continued. “But I have come to Earth to acquire my human mate.”

Faith made eye contact with Kurse for the first time. The black pupils were deep wells of darkness. She lingered there, unable to turn away.

“And do you mean any harm to us, humans?” Faith inquired.

Kurse looked around, fixing his gaze on the camera and Camren behind it. His mouth hung open, and he began to drool. Beyond the camera’s frame, Faith snapped her fingers. Kurse returned his look to her and attempted a pleasant grin.

“Not a single ounce of harm will come to you humans or your non-human pets on this world.”

Faith felt that this was the best place to close. She thanked him for his honesty and shut the camera off. She told Camren that he could leave, and he did, stepping backward slowly.

The police lingered, then left, and all that remained were Kurse and Faith. Kurse leaned forward, his posture appearing quite timid. “Will they try to take me out again?”

Faith turned to him and smiled, “I sure hope not.”

She was no longer afraid of him and even felt some kind of pity for him. He was in a world that wasn’t his own, sent on a mission he probably didn’t understand. Humans aren’t accustomed to seeing demon cocks on their television.

She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She glanced at it, seeing that it was her boss, Hannah Black. Faith picked up hesitantly.

“Faith, you need to keep this thing on your side,” she blared into her ear before Faith had the chance to say hello.

“What do you mean?” Faith inquired.

“This story is literally out of this world!” Hannah’s laugh nearly rivaled Kurse’s. Faith held it away from her ear for a moment. “Our ratings are going to skyrocket, honey. You have no choice!”

Faith held the phone away from her face. She wasn’t wrong. This was the story she had been asking for all along.

“I have no idea what I’m even in for Hannah. He keeps saying I’m his mate.”

“Oh, that’s delightful!” Hannah was gleefully screaming over the phone.

Faith sighed, replying with dismay. “Fine. I’ll let you know when this is all over with.”

She hung up without waiting for a reply. She swore she could hear dollar signs shooting through her boss's brain over the phone. Before she could place her phone in her pocket again, an unknown number rang her. She rarely answered unknown calls, but she felt this one would be important. She answered impatiently.

“This is Agent Keppler speaking. May I talk to Faith Rogers?”
