He closed his eyes and projected his mind into her apartment. His vision acted like a movie frame, hovering first in front of him, then moving up into the apartment like a filmmaking bird. It passed through the cardboard insertion of the sliding door, then into her dark living room.

Kurse moved slowly through the darkness. He could easily get lost in there, which would render the use of this ability pointless. He focused and moved through like he was a tiny mouse.

He quickly came upon Faith, who was lying on the couch. In her hand, she was holding something—a piece of paper. Kurse realized that it was probably his note. He felt his heart sink at the thought of her heart hurting at all.

She looked like she had been crying. Her eyes were red, her face swollen with grief. This made Kurse want to cry as well, but he held it in for the time being.

Despite her sadness, she looked beautiful. She looked like someone he wanted to spend the rest of his existence with. But he had already ruined so much. He hoped that one day she would see what he had done as some kind of blessing.

Kurse heard a sound, and he watched Faith react to it. She flashed upright with excitement and shot herself to the door, whipping it open like it weighed nothing. In front of her was a seven foot, probably 400 pound son of a bitch with eyes the size of the moon glaring down at her.

His skin was made of scales, and horns protruded from his head...

Wait. That was a demon, and it wasn’t any other demon, it was him!

Kurse watched in horror as they embraced. Faith leapt into his arms like a puppy dog, with the fake Kurse catching her and raising her to meet his lips. They kissed passionately, and Kurse could see the fake Kurse slowly getting an erection under his loincloth.

Jesus, that guy needed to get himself together.

Kurse couldn’t completely hear what they had been saying, but after they seemed to exchange a few words, Kurse placed Faith down, and they began walking down the hallway. Soon they vanished into the elevator.

Kurse snapped back into himself. He shot his eyes open and felt the hot river of rage running through his veins. Someone pretending to be him wasn’t a good thing. Far too many beings on that planet knew who he was, and they were using it to take advantage of Faith.

Kurse stood up and began walking out of the park. On his way, he almost bashed into a woman with his elbow. He apologized but was stunned by how she looked.

A voluptuous redhead with stunning blue eyes looked at him, cursing him out. She looked an awful lot like the form the Oracle had taken when he had last interacted with them.

“Sorry, miss.”

Kurse already had too much on his mind to deal with that.

FAITH

Faith had fallen asleep on the couch and woke up to the sound of someone knocking at the door. She was suddenly alert, feeling startled about being in the living room, but moved quickly to the door. Perhaps it was who she had been crying about in the first place.

She unlocked the door and swung it open with all her might. There he stood, in his seven foot glory, beautiful eyes peering down at her with the enticing look of love. Faith could not control herself. She jumped up into his arms, thankful that his reaction time was so swift.

“Woah, there!” Kurse said, laughing.

“Woah, there yourself! Why would you scare me like that?”

She could feel herself starting to cry again. Instead, she held it in by cringing her face.

Kurse stroked her hair, then moved in for a kiss. Faith kept her distance while Kurse chuckled.

“I merely wanted some time to think. I think you could give me that.”

Faith nodded, realizing that that was true, but his note seemed so very final. She was very glad to see him, but also very surprised.

“I have somewhere for us to go where we can talk,” Kurse said as he placed her down. Faith frowned.

“Somewhere more secure than here?” She asked while he began to walk away. Kurse turned back, looked slightly confused, then smiled like a dope.

“Yes! Somewhere way more secure, I promise.”

Faith began following behind him. He was adorning a collar that she had yet to see him wear. It wasn’t entirely groundbreaking, but noticeable nonetheless. They rode the elevator together, Kurse holding her hand the entire time. Faith felt that it was romantic but also very out of character.
