Tuli. She smiled and traced her lips with her fingertips, remembering his hot kisses and so much more. She pressed her legs together.
It was like everything in the universe had come together perfectly.
She had gone from the devastation of her future dreams to the man of her dreams in mere weeks. Her man.It terrified her to let the thought see light, but Lou could picture Tuli asthe one.Forever and always.
That was something she’d never truly considered calling anyone before.
Because no one had ever measured up to her childhood friend.Checking the clock again, she’d leaped out of bed.She needed to get to work. She set out food for Frost and cleaned the litter box. Then she rinsed off in the shower and threw on her navy EMS pants and button-down shirt, snagging a scone from the basket on the way out the door. She gave Frost a quick pet before hopping on one foot, then the other, to tie her work boots.
Coffee could wait. She had a hundred percent chance of getting Mav to take her to Three Bears. He was a sucker for a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Her heart skipped a beat as she hurried down the metal stairs to her car.No, Tuli wouldn’t be at the grocery store.True, he sometimes took a fire department call while working at the deli, but he’d mentioned they had some inventory or equipment duties, where he had to be at the station all day.
He got to hang out with his bestie, Hunter.Hopefully, those two were done hitting each other.
She finished her scone on the short drive to the hospital, pulled up to the building that was stationed across the parking lot from the hospital, got out of the car, and dashed in the door.
She checked her phone—7:01.Not bad.
“Hey, great. You’re here.”Mav walked toward her.“We just got a call.”
“All right.”She stowed her phone, grabbed the keys to the ambulance, and hopped into the driver’s seat.
*
A trip tothe ER later, after transporting a man with chest pain, Lou and Mav had their nice fresh cups of coffee in Three Bears to-go cups. She pulled into the ambulance garage, parked, and lifted her cup out from the holder.
Her phone beeped.
Another text from Tuli.
Her cheeks heated up as she smiled.
“Huh.”Mav threw her a wink before exiting the vehicle.
But he didn’t say anything further. At least her partner knew how much she craved privacy. He wouldn’t press unless she offered up information to share.
Another text popped up, then another.
She got out of the ambulance and shut the door but stood in the garage and checked the texts. What the heck?
One from Tuli.“Hoping we can have another date like that soon.Minus the going out part.”
She laughed out loud and hit a heart response.
From Mom:“Call me.Gordy’s fine.”Okay,phew.She’d contact Mom in a minute.
From her friend who worked in food services at the hospital.“GIRL, WHAT IS GOING ON?”
“What?”Lou typed back.
“You’re internet famous.”
Her heart thudded. Her head spun.Sweat broke out on her forehead. What? How?Only people in Yukon Valley knew who she was.Heck, she had only created a social media account a year ago, just to follow along with Tuli’s The Real Alaska page.
“??”she typed.
“Here.”Her friend sent a link and Lou clicked on it.
