She chuckled.“Same.”

He exited and slowly eased the apartment door closed behind him.

Chapter Thirty-One

“You typing outa book on your phone, boss?”Hunter’s sarcastic voice cut through Tuli’s thoughts several hours later on Saturday morning.

Tuli hitSENDon the latest smiley heart emoji-filled text to Lou and put his phone down on the arm of the recliner in the fire station.“Nope.”He crossed his foot over his knee, the black uniform cargo pants loud with the movement.

“You must have something good to text about. You’ve had a goofy smile on your face all morning.Website stuff?”

After their brief discussion on professionalism as they started today’s shift and an agreement to try and work together, Hunter seemed to be overcompensating in the other direction.Extra friendly.Extra buddy-buddy.

At least they weren’t busy punching each other.Tuli would call that a win.

He gripped the phone.“Something like that.”

“Lady stuff?”

Tuli’s dick tightened right up.Hunter had no idea how muchlady stuffTuli had enjoyed last night. And hopefully, would enjoy more later this week if things continued to go well with Lou.“Hmm,” he said noncommittally.

Hunter’s smile drooped.“So that’s a yes.Spill the beans.Sharing is caring.”

“Not always, man.”He pushed to his feet.“Enough sitting around. We’ve got equipment checks and bay cleaning today.”He pushed a piece of paper over the station table to him.“I’m going to the restroom, then we’ll tackle the list together.”

“Roger that, boss.”He raised an eyebrow and sneered.“Ah, you taking your phone into the bathroom?”

Yes.The phone went literally everywhere with him.“No.”He deliberately put it face-down on the table and headed down the hall.

After an hourof checking equipment was cut short by a call about a gas leak at a business, Tuli hung up his turnout gear on pegs with a weary sigh.He trudged into the station lounge. He needed to prep some sandwiches for lunch, then help Hunter finish cleaning the garage and trucks.

His hand was on a package of sliced meat when a text message from Mav popped up on his phone. Before he tapped on it, he spotted a red dot with thousands of notifications on the Instagram app.Huh.One of his posts must have gone viral.Which one?

He tapped on the text first.

“GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE NOW.”

He sat up straight, heart slamming against his chest.“What happened?”he wrote back.Had someone gotten hurt?

“You screwed up.Big time.Get over here.”

“Be there in 5.”His thoughts raced. What had he messed up?Damn it.

Tuli bolted past a brow-raised Hunter, who held a sudsy sponge over the side panel of an engine.

“Where are you going, boss?”

“Mav needs help.Keep working on the equipment, and I’ll be back in a flash.Call if anything comes up.”

“Everything okay?”

“No idea.”

Chapter Thirty-Two

Earlier that morning,Lou relaxed in bed, stretching until all the sore spots from the night with Tuli eased away. What a night.
