I sighed heavily. “Not a very quiet start to our marriage, huh?”
“Is that really what you want, Mrs. Von Lucas? A quiet, calm life?”
I peered at him. “Would you give it to me if I did?”
“Haven’t you figured it out by now, little rabbit?”
He pressed a kiss to my lips.
“I’d give you anything.”
My heart stuttered. Those were words I never thought I’d hear from anyone. Not after a lifetime of pushing people away, hoarding my secrets like stolen treasure. But I didn’t have to do that with Maverick. It was the most free I’d ever felt in my life.
“No.” I began walking toward him. “I don’t want a quiet life. I want adventure. I want passion. I want excitement.”
In the end, the life I’d always wanted was the life I’d gotten. Maverick reached out his hand and we threaded our fingers together, walking out of our museum and onto the snowy streets of Fyriad toward our next adventure.
