Slanting her mouth beneath his, she opened for him, shivering as his tongue swept in, all promise and possession. He kissed her like a vow, like a claim, and when he dragged his mouth down to the slope of her neck, running his tongue along the tender skin, her knees nearly buckled.

“It’s really over?” she whispered.

“Yes. And if it’s not, I’m making sure it is before I leave here.” His teeth grazed her collarbone. “Then I’m coming home to marry you.”

“Maybe now we can have our beach wedding after all.”

His hands gripped her ass roughly as he kissed her again. “You can have anything you want as long as you’ll be my wife.”

“Jamison Cohen, at your service, sir.”

Liam sucked in a sharp breath and froze, the color draining from his face.

“Did that scare you?” she asked half-jokingly. “Does hearing me call myself Jamison Cohen freak you out?”

He didn’t answer right away. He just stared at her, all seriousness in his expression. “I thought I lost you. On that long drive, I really thought… I’d lost you.”

“Hey. I’m here.” She cupped his face in her hands, allowing him to be vulnerable while no one else could see. “Look at me, Liam. I’m here. I’m safe. You saved me.”

His throat worked as he swallowed, and she was engulfed in his arms once more. “Just expect me to be overprotective for an extremely long time.”

“How long are we talking?”

“I might be good once we reach our eighties. I figured most of my memory will be gone by then.”

She dozed off on the plane, and the sun was already up when she woke. “Are we almost there?”

“Yeah,” her father replied softly beside her. “How are you feeling?”

It should’ve been her asking him that question. He looked rough as hell. “Good,” she lied, not wanting him to worry. “I’m ready to be home and see my new nephew.”

“Here.” He handed her his phone. “Selah and his crew have arrived and just sent photos.”

Taking her time, she marveled at each one. “He’s such a pretty baby. Most babies look all squished those first few days, but not Albie.”

“Samuel looked like that when he was born.”

Jamison snorted. “I highly doubt it. Samuel’s ugly.”

“Hey, don’t insult my kid.” Taking the phone back, her father chuckled. “Although I will say that you were the prettiest newborn out of all of them.”

“Duh.” She leaned her head against his shoulder. “Did you hear from Liam while I was asleep?”

“I heard from Will. They’ve cleared the site and are preparing to go in.”

“But Liam is okay?”

“I would say he’s staying focused.”

“Which means no.”

“It means that he’s smart enough to know this isn’t the time to let fear take over.”
