“He went to Samuel’s house first.”
The polite smile on Jamison’s lips faltered. Samuel’s house? That didn’t make any sense. Liam knew she wanted to see Evie, and he had promised to take her the first chance he had, so why go there without her?
A sharp knock sounded on the doorframe as her father passed. “Taylor, we’re starting. Let’s go.”
“He never takes a break.” Taylor rolled her shoulders while heaving out an annoyed puff of air. “I can’t wait to get back to the office. I mean, I love Haven House. It’s beautiful, and honestly, I wouldkillto live here, but being in such close quarters with your dad is intense sometimes. When he gets going, there’s no stopping him.”
Jamison fired off a text to Liam, asking for an ETA, and tried not to grin at Taylor’s comment. It would appear that the honeymoon phase of being her father’s assistant was officially over. “My dad is interesting.”
“That’s one way to put it.” Taylor wrinkled her nose. “Do you think he’s going to freak out when I ask for time off next week?”
“I doubt it, and if he needs an assistant, I can fill in.” Jamison laughed at the idea of taking orders from her father. The two of them would butt heads like crazy. “And I don’t blame you for needing a break from all this.”
“It’s not that. I’m going to visit some family and help them move into their home, and well...” Taylor bit her full bottom lip and looked everywhere but directly at Jamison. “There’s someone I want to seeagain. He’s in the area, and I thought it might be a good time to reconnect.”
“Yeah?” Jamison refused to fist pump the air at hearing Taylor was interested in someone who was not a Fairweather. “That’s cool.”
“I don’t want to jinx it. He’s incredibly attractive, but also the corporate type who might not have time for anything long term.”
The handsome corporate type could easily translate into being the Taylor-type. This was perfect.
“But it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun,” Jamison pointed out. “Especially if he’s going to be in the same area.”
“Oh, I plan to have fun with him.” Taylor sighed wistfully. “So much fun.”
Chapter 16
Glaring at her phone, Jamison resisted the urge to text Liam again once Taylor took off to do her father’s bidding. It had been twenty minutes, and he had yet to respond, making her more frustrated with each passing second.
No, screw that. She wasn’t frustrated.
She was pissed.
Mainly because she was worried, but still pissed.
Why would he go to Samuel and Evie’s place and not tell her? She was sure there was a reason. There was always a reason with Liam, but it annoyed her that she was being left out.
Again.
“Why are you giving your phone a death glare?” Rowan asked with a yawn. Stretching his arms overhead, he rose from the couch. “And where’s Annabeth?”
“She’s making you food.”
Rowan grinned stupidly. “Really?”
“Stop looking so happy, you Neanderthal. She’s just as tired as you, but is in there cooking.”
The goofy smile on his face dropped mid-stretch. “Oh, shit.”
Would she ever get used to seeing Rowan like this? Probably not. Annabeth had him soundly wrapped around her dainty finger, and Jamison was pretty sure he was in it for the long haul.
“Care to tell me why Liam went to my brother and sister’s house and didn’t tell me?”
“You know, it’s weird when you refer to a married couple as ‘my brother and sister,’ right?”
Jamison didn't miss a beat. “You know it’s weird that you watched Annabeth use her masturbation station through our security cameras instead of asking her out like a normal person, right? Now stop avoiding the question.”
Rowan dropped into a folding chair in front of his many laptops, the thing nearly buckling under his weight. “I didn’t know he was going, let alone why he went.”
