“Where would we go?”

“Anywhere,” he answered, rubbing her nose with his. “The world is yours.”

“North Carolina.”

Samuel chuckled. “I’m offering to take you anywhere in the world, and North Carolina is what you pick?”

“We can stop in and visit Josie. She’s not far from the cabin, right? I’d like to get to know her better.”

“I thought you would want to go somewhere more exciting. We can go to North Carolina anytime.”

Draping a leg over his waist, Evie pouted. “If we make it a road trip, we can stop by Fairweather’s Georgia location, and you can show me around. I’d like to see the area where we might live one day.”

Talking of their future had his eyes darkening, and the towel she wore disappeared from around her thanks to Samuel’s fast fingers.

“Loving you is incredibly easy, Evangeline.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll make it hard at some point.”

Chapter 30

ParkingEvie’scarinits usual spot in front of Haven, Liam silently groaned when he saw Samuel waiting for them.

Jamison waved at her brother from the passenger seat. “I’ll make us some breakfast. Don’t let him give you a hard time.”

He turned off the engine, handing Jamison the keys. They’d driven her sister’s car because his rental was still at Samuel’s place.

That, and they had needed the hefty supply of condoms in the car.

“Right.”

Getting out, Liam leaned back on the driver’s side door across from Samuel, who stood doing the same against his black Audi. The text Liam had received from him earlier had been short and sweet.

We need to talk. Alone.

Jamison swished between them, singing a good morning greeting to her brother.

Samuel’s jaw clenched when he caught sight of theBeads 4 Boobiesshirt she wore, but he waited until Jamison was inside the house before saying anything. “Seriously?”

“Seriously,” Liam replied, refusing to deny it. He would be sticking around for a while, and Samuel had better get used to seeing him with Jamison. “However, I’m assuming that’s not why you wanted to speak to me.”

Biting back whatever retort was on his tongue, Samuel crossed his arms. “I wanted to say thank you for yesterday.”

“I was just doing my job.”

“The thank you was for when you didn’t do your job.”

If given the opportunity, Liam would make the same choice again, but he didn’t think he needed to tell Samuel that. Ben, Mathis, and the other officers arrived just in time to play the role of the good guys.

“You’re welcome,” he said. “You know, my father is coming down. Mom’s feeling up to the trip, and the great Dr. Cohen finds the family dynamic here, and Toby’s case, fascinating. He can’t wait to meet you.”

“I’m flattered, but don’t you think it’s a little early in our relationship to jump straight into the meet the parents’ phase?”

“Well, I thought you might enjoy it, since you and Evie skipped that part.”

Samuel snorted, a smile threatening. “Honestly, Cohen, you’re not as funny as you think you are.”

“Yes, I am,” Liam snickered. “But what I’m trying to say is that when he arrives, I would appreciate it if you’d keep what happened out there in the forest between us. My father is a brilliantly wonderful man, whom I admire, but as I already explained, we don’t always see eye to eye on these things.”
