Cyn grinned. “Sure as hell felt like it the past two years.”
“What’d you hear, though?”
She had him now. Honestly, she hadn’t thought it would be that easy. Although there were those in the movement who possessed some scary survival and strategy skills, it didn’t surprise her that a man who dedicated most of his time to gaming online and haunting chat rooms wasn’t one of them.
“Lot’s of shit about the Capitol take over, but some stuff about something in New York and Boston. I heard New York was going to happen this Friday, but it always seems like shit is planned in NYC, but it never happens, ya know?”
“No shit. Give it a couple of years, though, and they’ll forget all about 9/11, and then it will be easier.”
Cyn would like to think that 9/11 would never be forgotten, but there was nothing an archeologist knew better than the fact that history and historical eventsareeventually forgotten.
“And Boston hardly seems a good idea since it’s like the butt ass of winter up there, isn’t it?”JimKrackerwas a southern boy.
“Fuck yeah. I’m in Virginia, and it’s cold here. I heard some shit about Boston, though, so maybe that’s true? Would be about fucking time.”
About time for what? Cyn wondered. It wasn’t like there’d been a dearth of racially driven attacks in the past few years.
“You hearing something big?” she typed. “That’d make my fucking day. You know they got me for carrying? That was my fucking parole violation. I had an open carry permit before I went in the first time, and I carried, and they fucking threw me back in jail for two years. This country is going off the rails, ya know.” Yes, Cyn knew that felons lost their rights to own guns or have gun permits, but it sounded like somethingJimKrackerwould complain about.
“No shit? Fucking peacenik activists fucking with our rights.”
Beside her, Joe chuckled. “I guess he doesn’t know that felons lost the rights to own guns long before recent history.”
“I’m going to go out on a limb and say there’s a lot about history this guy doesn’t know,” she replied.
“You sure it’s a guy?” Joe asked.
That question pulled her up and she frowned. “I assumed, but you’re right. I shouldn’t. Although I don’t think it makes much difference given that all we want is info on Boston.”
Joe tipped his head. “Might be good to find out in the long run, but you’re right, it doesn’t matter now. You going to ask about Boston?”
She nodded and turned her attention back to the computer. “I heard some new group is interested in Boston. Some kid tied to the military or something? Maybe he got some good intel,” she typed.
“That kid died.”
“No shit???” Cyn typed. “Guess he won’t be doing shit then. I thought it was all bullshit anyway.”
“Nah, it’s not bullshit. The guy was solid. Got shot during some training exercise over in Africa.”
“That’s irony for you,” Cyn typed, then wondered if maybe she’d gone too intellectual onLiveCrow. But there was no avoiding the fact that McElroy had been shot in an African country when his foundational beliefs appeared to be pro-gun and anti-Black.
“Too bad, though,” she added. “I didn’t know the guy, but always bad to lose a good one, I guess.”
“Yeah,”LiveCrowresponded. “He’s got a small group, though they’re still around. Not sure if they’ll pull something off in Beantown, but they’re the closest to that city. At least that I know of.”
Cyn glanced at the thread and decided to back off. They’d been on the topic for a few minutes, and she didn’t want to seem overeager. She hadn’t gotten any details—she suspectedLiveCrowwouldn’t have them anyway—but at least she’d gotten confirmation that McElroy and his crew were known in these dark web pages and that yes, the rumor was true, they were planning something for Boston. There was no need to linger and raise suspicions.
“Yeah, well, I hope it’s fucking soon, and I hope it’s something big,” she typed. “But I gotta go. Gotta call my parole officer and check in and all that bullshit.”
“Good to see you back, Kracker,”LiveCrowresponded.
“Good to be back. Those fucking computers in lock up suck ass.” And with that, she ended the chat and logged out of the system.
Sitting back in her chair, she swiveled to look at Joe. “And Beni said they are only getting intel about New York?”
Joe nodded.
“I was online for less than twenty minutes in that chat room before we heard about something being planned in Boston. Why hasn’t the FBI picked that up?”
