I was dozing when Jacob shifted under me. I raised myself up on my arms and smiled down at him. He placed his palm on the side of my face and swept my hair back.

“Isthisjust about sex?” he asked quietly.

“Erm...” I wasn’t sure how to reply.

“I hope not,” he added.

“I hope not, too.”

The smile I received was confirmation enough. I rolled to the side, feeling the stickiness inside my thighs.

“Bathroom?” he asked, and I pointed to my en-suite.

I used some wipes to clean up and pulled on my PJs while he showered. I was back in bed when he returned with just a small towel wrapped around his waist. Still damp, he climbed under the duvet beside me. The clock showed one in the morning when I snuggled into his side, resting my head on his chest, and wrapped in his arms we fell asleep.

CHAPTERNINE

I let Jacob sleep while I showered for two reasons. He had declared he was tired before we’d had sex, so I guessed he’d want another hour, and I needed to shower. I didn’t want to run the risk of him joining me.

I was in my underwear and a robe when I decided to go make him a coffee.

He’d made me come, fucked me until my legs ached, and yet, I didn’t know how he took his coffee. I laughed as I filled the machine with beans. Perhaps I’d prepare an old-fashioned tray with cream and sugar.

I carried the tray upstairs and he was sitting on the bed with wet hair and a towel around his waist.

“Good morning, after all the sex we had, I still don’t know how you take your coffee, so I made you a tray,” I said, laughing.

“Black, strong, and lots of it,” he replied, patting the bed beside him. “Come and sit for a minute.”

I placed the tray on a unit and handed him the mug. He smelled it and sighed, then took a sip. “Other than you, this is my only drug.”

“Other than me?” I asked, sitting beside him.

“I meant what I said in that I hope this isn’t just about sex. I can’t help but think about you all the time. You’re very distracting,” he said, chuckling.

“Sorry about that.” I smiled at him.

“Is there anything you want to tell me?” he asked, shifting slightly so that he could face me.

I blinked rapidly, hoping he wasn’t talking about the baby. After the wedding, I’d promised myself.

“Erm, I’m not sure. There is, but...” No. I stopped myself from blurting it out. It wasn’t the right time at all.

“Later. I don’t want to move into a relationship with secrets.” His voice was gentle and soft. All I could do was nod. “Now, however, we need to blow the socks off your father, charm your mother, and destroy your ex and sister!”

I laughed out loud, thankful the awkward moment had passed.

“We are going to be the talk of the town anyway,” I replied, leaning forwards and kissing him. He tasted of toothpaste and coffee.

“Then let’s make hay, my love, while the sun still shines.” He stood and let the towel fall to the floor. “Unless being late is fashionable.”

I looked to my watch. “Oh, we have a few minutes.” With that, I slid to my knees and cupped his balls with one hand, stroked his cock with the other. “I do owe you one, I guess.”

I locked up the house while Jacob waited on the pavement for the car. He’d told me he was driving but when a superb Bentley arrived with blacked-out windows and a suited driver alighted, I laughed. The rear door was held open for me and it was very clear, by the clap to the driver’s back, Jacob knew him. He didn’t, however, introduce us.

“Nice car,” I said, running my hands over the cream leather.

“I aim to fuck you in here one day,” he answered.
